  • A PhD in Computer Science with a focus on natural language processing or large language models plus 6 or more years of directly related research experience, or a Master's degree in Computer Science with a focus on natural language processing or large language models plus 8 or more years of directly related research experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a focus on natural language processing or large language models plus 12 or more years of directly related research experience.
Responsibilities
  • Formulate, design, and manage independent test and evaluation research programs to protect the public from artificial intelligence system harms, focusing on systems enabling the most public harm.
  • Lead and contribute to competitive research proposals, including defining scope, methodology, and deliverables, to secure funding for independent artificial intelligence test and evaluation research programs.
  • Serve as a principal investigator for Digital Safety’s independent test and evaluation research programs in natural language processing and large language models, providing scientific leadership and accountability for program outcomes, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Apply intensive and diverse knowledge of technology and artificial intelligence/software engineering concepts to execute and manage specific research programs.
  • Analyze experimental results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions, and evaluate technical specifications and factors related to process or design objectives.
  • Plan, design, and complete initial and follow-up procedures as needed to validate testing and evaluation results.
  • Plan, design, and execute research challenges using and improving Digital Safety’s evaluation tools to lead the natural language processing and large language model community in solving problems important to transition partners.
  • Propose and host workshops at leading research conferences in artificial intelligence safety where research challenge-winning methods and comparative results are discussed to advance public-safety research.
  • Stay current with changing technologies by reading papers and scientific publications and attending academic conferences.
  • Contribute to or lead other department-specific and cross-functional initiatives.
