Requirements
  • A master's degree is required.
  • Proven experience in student recruitment and advising within an educational institution or a similar type of institution is required.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, customer relationship management systems, DegreeWorks, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Bookings, Zoom technology, and other assigned technological tools is required.
  • The ability to develop in-depth knowledge of program and certification requirements for all programs at GSE is required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • The ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multicultural environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Understand and apply university and GSE policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support to a diverse student population regarding educational and career goals.
  • Establish ongoing relationships with assigned students through Zoom and face-to-face meetings at least twice per semester.
  • Inform students in a timely manner when they deviate from expected progress in their selected degree program.
  • Assist students in selecting or changing majors by providing appropriate guidance.
  • Help students select courses aligned with degree requirements and monitor their progress within the appropriate GSE program roadmap.
  • Assist students with course add/drop procedures and discuss the academic and financial implications of contemplated changes.
  • Facilitate student access to tutorial services and other academic resources.
  • Refer students with academic or personal issues interfering with satisfactory achievement for appropriate assistance.
  • Serve as a liaison between chairs, faculty, the Registrar's Office, Admissions, the Bursar, and Financial Aid under the supervision of the Senior Director for Graduate Advisement or designee.
  • Promptly evaluate course credits for state content core requirements.
  • Monitor and update student records to ensure accuracy.
  • Support students facing academic challenges by presenting their cases to the Senior Director for Graduate Advisement.
  • Complete graduation checks using DegreeWorks to ensure students meet graduation requirements.
  • Participate in virtual and in-person orientations and assist students with other Student Services offices, including the Bursar, Registrar, and Financial Aid.
  • Set up next steps for student referrals and follow up after completion.
  • Work extended hours or visit and recruit at outside locations when requested by the Senior Director for Graduate Advisement.
  • Create rapport with students using active listening, empathy, positive regard, empowerment, clear and accurate information, questioning, challenging, and reflecting techniques.
  • Respond to student emails the same day, except emails arriving within 15 minutes of the end of the workday may be answered the next business day.
  • Document daily activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
