Requirements
  • At least 2 years of over-the-road experience, unless state law requires additional experience.
  • Ability to qualify as a Class A Commercial Driver's License driver under company requirements.
  • Fewer than 3 moving violations within a 5-year period, with no more than 1 within 12 months.
  • Fewer than 2 suspensions within 3 years, excluding child-support-related suspensions.
  • No history of driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated within the last 5 years, or 1 within the last 15 years.
  • Fewer than 2 preventable accidents within 5 years.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Transportation road test.
  • Appropriate state certification as a Commercial Driver's License examiner if administering exams.
  • An associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to remain on one's feet on hard surfaces for most of the shift.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ongoing education related to teaching skills as part of faculty improvement to maintain applicable post-secondary education requirements.
  • Maintenance of Professional Truck Driver Institute and Commercial Vehicle Training Association standards, including completion of at least two American Association for Vocational Schools modules annually.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Provide new drivers with hands-on instruction in essential driving skills through training and repetition.
  • Provide practical guidance on in-cab systems, telematics equipment, professional expectations, and safe decision-making.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in foundational driving techniques, including close-quarters maneuvering and backing.
  • Conduct classroom training on Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements, company safety expectations, and policies.
  • Teach essential driver knowledge, including recording hours of service with an electronic logging device, completing driver vehicle inspection reports, securing cargo, and practicing safe driving.
  • Use learning stations, telematics tools, technology platforms, company equipment, and other resources to provide students with an overview of company resources.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments to ensure qualified candidates enter the program and receive onboarding support.
  • Support teammates and contribute to organizational goals.
  • Complete daily proficiency documentation for each student and submit it to program leadership for review.
  • Evaluate each student's driving techniques and comprehension of essential driver knowledge after instruction.
  • Assist others in achieving organizational objectives.
