Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, banking, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 10 plus years of commercial lending or portfolio management experience is required, including previous loan structuring and credit analysis responsibilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of all Bank products, services, procedures, and practices is required.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new business through sales efforts in a SouthState metropolitan market.
  • Manage an entry-level loan and deposit portfolio while providing superior client service.
  • Analyze financial information to evaluate the credit worthiness of loan requests.
  • Compile complete and accurate loan packages.
  • Sell and cross-sell additional bank products and services.
  • Ensure that loans follow State and Federal regulations and Bank policies and procedures.
  • Participate in a business development plan to increase the loan and deposit portfolio of commercial clients within a SouthState metropolitan market.
  • Develop consultative relationships with prospects and clients by delivering appropriate banking solutions.
  • Manage the flow of loan and deposit requests through appropriate channels, ensuring credit quality, responsiveness, structure, and pricing meet client and Bank objectives.
  • Collaborate with Treasury Management Sales Officers, Capital Markets, Wealth, and Retail.
  • Underwrite loan requests within Bank policy parameters and ensure loan packages are accurate and complete before submission to the appropriate Credit partner.
  • Manage and service the assigned loan portfolio.
  • Ensure required documentation is on file for all loans and deposits.
  • Resolve documentation or compliance deficiencies identified by Loan and Deposit Operations or other reviewers.
  • Partner with Credit to risk-grade each loan in the assigned portfolio and adjust risk grades as circumstances change or new information becomes available.
  • Price each loan and deposit product according to current Bank pricing guidelines.
  • Document credit quality, competitive factors, or relationship circumstances justifying departures from approved Bank pricing regulations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to fair lending practices.
  • Remain knowledgeable about laws and regulations governing lending activities of financial institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Bank policies, procedures, and State and Federal regulations.
  • Resolve client problems and assist with general inquiries.
  • Provide superior service to existing clients.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Centers of Influence and others in the community to enhance the Bank’s marketplace image and reputation.
  • Travel from time to time as required.
  • Work in a private office and spend substantial time accessing information on a computer, either sitting or standing.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized school of banking is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the local business community is strongly preferred.

SouthState Bank launches government contractor banking vertical, hires former MartinFed CEO

SouthState Bank has launched a Government Contractor Banking vertical and appointed David Mathis as director to lead the initiative. Mathis brings nearly a decade of experience from MartinFederal Consulting, where he served as CEO before successfully selling the company this year. He also has 25 years of commercial banking experience focused on the government contracting industry. The new vertical will support companies working with federal agencies across SouthState's nine-state footprint, offering services including financing, treasury management, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions advice. SouthState president Richard Murray noted the bank's presence in regions with military bases and operations supporting NASA, the Department of Justice and the Department of Energy.

SouthState Bank raises dividend 10%, reports $230M Q2 net income with 11% loan growth

SouthState Bank Corporation reported second quarter 2026 results with net income of $230 million and diluted earnings per share of $2.35, up 11% year over year. The bank's chief executive officer, John C. Corbett, highlighted solid loan growth, stable net interest margin, and improved asset quality. Loans increased by $1.4 billion, or 11% annualised, compared to the prior quarter, whilst deposits grew by $474 million, or 3% annualised. Net interest income reached $576 million, up $14 million from the previous quarter. Net charge-offs totalled $8 million, or 0.06% of average loans. The board of directors increased the quarterly cash dividend from $0.60 to $0.66 per share, payable on 14 August 2026. Tangible book value per share rose to $58.72, representing a 13% year-over-year increase.

UMB Financial tops regional banks in Q1 as SouthState misses revenue estimates
