Responsibilities
  • Directs, plans and coordinates the service activities and staffing performance of professional nursing and auxiliary nursing personnel in rendering quality patient care.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates staff onboarding, training, and education.
  • Provides ongoing coaching and performance feedback for staff.
  • Ensures a positive work environment that is safe for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Coordinates unit activities with other hospital departments.
  • Develops and implements staffing plans.
  • Leads clinical operations including directing, delegating and monitoring quality of care delivered by the health care team.
  • Functions within and across interdisciplinary teams to promote coordination and timely response to patient health care needs.
  • Facilitates development of workflows and pathways for care coordination across settings, with attention to transitional needs.
  • Facilitates huddles and models effective, respectful communication.
  • Utilizes critical thinking to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Identifies and evaluates operational clinical needs and resolves concerns early.
  • Role models and facilitates change within the health care team to respond to organizational needs.
  • Fosters innovative thinking to create alternative solutions.
  • Manages resources to support optimal care including gateway, telehealth, and other emerging care delivery models.
  • Models and promotes health care team building and leadership skills.
  • Develops collaborative relationships across roles and departments to ensure timely access to patient care needs.
  • Occasionally participates on committees or broader organizational initiatives as required.
  • Provides clinical oversight and support to nursing staff and medical assistants in collaboration with the Medical Director and Practice Manager.
  • Manages changes in nursing/medical assistant staffing schedules and adjusts resources accordingly.
  • Authorizes hours worked by nursing staff and medical assistants, including overtime; serves as direct recipient of sick and tardy calls for clinical staff.
  • Assumes accountability for evaluation of performance of RNs, LPNs and Medical Assistants under the nurse manager's direction.
  • Participates in the selection, supervision and development of staff.
  • Mentors new staff, assists with orientation and staff development needs.
  • Collaborates with nursing and practice leadership in setting quality standards and policies.
  • Analyzes, synthesizes and applies data to drive optimal care delivery outcomes.
  • Oversees The Joint Commission readiness and quality programs.
  • Provides evidence-based, clinically competent nursing care.
  • Performs all clinical tasks and responsibilities of the Brigham and Women's Hospital registered nurse as permitted by licensure, scope and institutional policy.
  • Performs skilled nursing tasks competently and demonstrates operational knowledge of procedures and equipment.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy and uses data from a wide range of resources.
  • Uses practice management systems for population health management, decision support, reports, continuous quality improvement and professional development.
  • Provides input to the development of information systems that impact patient care.
  • Facilitates and oversees staff use of health care technologies and develops, accesses and applies reporting data.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Ambulatory/ANCC certification preferred
  • Nursing leadership experience 1-2 years preferred
  • Primary Care or ambulatory experience in a clinical nursing or leadership position preferred

MGB Home Care clinicians to picket Mass General over stalled contract talks after year of bargaining

Approximately 450 clinicians at Mass General Brigham Home Care, represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, will hold an informational picket on 24 March outside Massachusetts General Hospital. The clinicians are seeking their first union contract after more than 20 bargaining sessions since March 2025. The bargaining unit includes registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers and dieticians who voted to join the MNA in June 2024. They are demanding reasonable caseload limits, clear productivity standards, competitive wages and recruitment protections. MGB reported a $59.2 million operating gain in the year ending September 2025, with CEO Dr Anne Klibanski's compensation rising 40% to $8.4 million in 2024. The picket is scheduled for 15:30 to 17:00 and is not a strike.
