Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.
  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the required education.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct the academic course for the Peer Education program; provide interactive prevention education workshops for diverse student, staff, and faculty audiences; evaluate prevention education curriculum in alignment with national best practices; supervise undergraduate Peer Educators and Step Up Educators; serve on the University of Maryland Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC); conduct prevention education assessments and evaluations; participate in outreach event programming; work onsite on campus with occasional evenings and weekend hours.
  • Contribute to the planning, development, implementation, and delivery of all prevention education trainings for issues of sexual assault and relationship violence at UMD; include bystander intervention training (Step Up!), topical interactive workshops by request, and managing day-to-day logistics of workshop planning, coordination, and evaluation; facilitate training for first-year student classes, student athletes, fraternity and sorority students, resident assistants, orientation leaders, teaching assistants, graduate students, and faculty and staff.
  • Research, recommend, create, and maintain interactive workshop curricula based on national best practices in prevention education; strengthen education resources for historically marginalized and underserved communities; serve on the UMD Sexual Assault Prevention Committee and advise others on best practices in prevention education.
  • Co-Instruct in the academic course for Peer Educators in the fall and spring semesters; select, onboard, and supervise the Step Up! Educators.
  • Support additional CARE initiatives across the office, including clinical and outreach services; support Health Promotion and Wellness Services prevention education and outreach initiatives as needed; participate in efforts for the University Health Center and the Division of Student Affairs, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in public health, social work, public policy, education, or other related discipline preferred.
  • Experience working as or with peer educators.
  • Familiarity with risk and protective factors for college students and environments.
  • Experience with program implementation and evaluation, event planning, curriculum development, and digital communication.
  • Experience in power-based violence prevention education and content development.
  • Experience in public speaking and training students to be workshop facilitators.
  • Familiarity with bystander intervention, responding to disclosures, and best practices in trauma-informed education.
  • Knowledge of the complex issues related to sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and relationship violence is required.
  • Knowledge of prevention education strategies and bystander intervention is preferred.
  • This position also requires strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
