Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of standard property and casualty insurance statutes, regulations, and practices, including casualty and liability claims adjusting and the analysis and coordination of claim dispositions.
  • Good supervisory practices.
  • Good analytical skills for interpreting laws and regulations as a basis for decision-making.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all daily functions of the Claims Department.
  • Liaise between upper management and the Claims Department.
  • Provide customer service to associates, agents, adjusters, attorneys, and others requiring assistance.
  • Hire and train claims department staff.
  • Advise the CEO, underwriter, and branch manager of potentially large exposures and issues beyond normal daily occurrences.
  • Report errors-and-omissions exposures to the CEO with full details and the claim file.
  • Review problem files, including insured disputes of denials and complaints filed with insurance or London complaint departments.
  • Recommend and assign attorneys appointed by London to defend losses or request coverage opinions.
  • Keep all involved parties updated.
  • Direct claims staff on coverage issues.
  • Review daily checks prepared by the claims team.
  • Work with accounting to determine the availability of funds for weekly claim payments.
  • Handle incoming phone calls.
  • Review incoming mail and distribute it for processing.
  • Prepare annual staff performance evaluations and set goals for claims staff.
  • Encourage continuing education for the claims team and recommend training when needed.
  • Run monthly bordereaux reports and work with accounting to reconcile payments.
  • Perform peer reviews for London contracts.
  • Review adjuster performance and maintain records of errors-and-omissions certificates.
  • Interview adjusting firms to determine compatibility with organizational needs.
  • Review London contracts for compliance and review adjuster panels for each contract.
  • Prepare claim files for annual audits.
  • Comply with subpoenas served on Jimcor, including document production.
