The Position

This role plays an important part in supporting the design and implementation of manufacturing processes, instrumentation, and equipment — from early R&D and prototypes to full-scale manufacturing. You’ll work closely with our manufacturing teams to help troubleshoot equipment and system challenges, while also contributing to the development of new processes and technologies that enhance product quality and drive cost efficiencies.

You’ll have the opportunity to recommend and refine processes for the production of diagnostics products, develop operating specifications, and help improve manufacturing techniques. Collaboration is key in this role, as you’ll partner with cross-functional teams to ensure new product designs and processes are smoothly transferred into production and aligned with future automation strategies.

This role frequently involves research, problem-solving, and developing creative solutions. You’ll provide expertise in your area, help guide department leadership on strategic decisions, and support the professional growth of colleagues through advice and mentorship.

Assignments are typically broad and complex, offering the freedom to work independently while also contributing as a valued team resource. The role may involve hands-on support of production processes after equipment installation, ensuring new systems are performing to expectations.

The Opportunity:

• Duties are varied and complex often involving research, analysis and solution development.

• Provides direction on issues of area of expertise and assist department leadership in setting strategic direction.

• Support manufacturing operations in troubleshooting equipment and system issues.

• Recommend new process technologies to improve product quality and cost efficiency.

• Establish operating specifications and enhance manufacturing techniques.

• Collaborate with various departments to ensure compatibility of new product technology transfers.

• Develop strategies for future process and equipment automation technology.

• Occasional travel (up to 15%) may be required to support equipment development, installation, and commissioning activities.

Who You Are:

Senior Engineer

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or a closely related scientific/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, process/equipment development, R&D/product development, or related experience in an FDA or similarly regulated industry. Advanced technical degree work may be considered.

• Formal training and / or experience applying FMEA, characterization tools, and automated control system design (vision systems, PLC programming, motion control, communication)

• Formal training in biosensor technology or electrochemistry, or significant equivalent work experience.

Skills and Expertise:

• Specialized and in-depth comprehensive knowledge and experience in automated control systems. 

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct research, analysis, and develop solutions for complex issues.

• Ability to provide strategic direction and expert advice on manufacturing processes.

• Broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in the field of engineering.

• Proven ability to manage complex and difficult assignments with a high degree of originality and ingenuity.

• Capability to mentor and guide consultants and lower-level staff

• Prior experience with track and trace systems is preferred

Engineer:

• Educational Background:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related scientific/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.

• Relevant Experience:Experience in manufacturing, process/equipment development, R&D/product development in an FDA or similarly regulated industry. Advanced technical degrees can be considered as relevant experience.

• Automated Control Systems Knowledge:Prior experience in automated control system design, including vision systems, PLC programming, motion control, and communication.

The expected salary range for a Sr. Engineer based on the primary location of Indianapolis, IN is $85,400 - $158,600 and for an Engineer is $65,500 - $121,600.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
