Requirements
  • Hold a minimum baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a United States Department of Education-recognized regional or national accrediting body.
  • Hold a current Occupational Therapy Practitioner license or be eligible for licensure in California.
  • Hold National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapist.
  • Hold a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation card.
  • Have a minimum of three years of related practical work experience in occupational therapy practice.
  • Demonstrate documented expertise in the area or areas of teaching responsibility and knowledge of content delivery methods, including distance learning.
  • For the adult care specialty, have experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in adult neuro-rehabilitation care settings.
  • For the pediatrics specialty, have experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in pediatric settings.
  • Demonstrate thorough, accurate, and practical knowledge of the occupational therapy field or discipline.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the occupational therapy field or discipline.
  • Effectively operate related equipment and machines for instructional purposes.
  • Operate office equipment such as computer terminals, calculators, and copiers.
  • Work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.
  • Use effective oral and written communication, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Speak before public groups, committees, and meetings.
  • Effectively use interpersonal skills, follow through with duties, provide attention to detail, and motivate others.
  • Use creative facilitation and conflict-resolution skills to resolve difficult and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrate analytical and organizational skills.
  • Self-direct, self-pace, multitask, and function effectively under pressure from deadlines and conflicting priorities.

  • Complete training in educational methods, testing, and evaluation, and demonstrate strength in instructional methodology, delivery, and techniques within 30 days of beginning instruction.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver class and clinical instruction according to approved course syllabi using accepted teaching methods.
  • Develop daily lesson plans and instructional program outlines and training schedules according to course objectives.
  • Advise and tutor students, including providing individualized tutorial and remedial instruction.
  • Employ instructional methods and learning strategies, modifying them as appropriate to meet diverse student needs.
  • Observe and evaluate student work, determine progress, provide feedback, and suggest improvements.
  • Encourage communication and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Present lectures and conduct discussions using visual aids such as graphs, charts, videotapes, and slides.
  • Administer standardized oral, written, and performance assessments.
  • Supervise independent and group projects, field placements, laboratory work, and other training as needed.
  • Conduct simulated on-the-job training, classes, and training sessions to teach and demonstrate principles, techniques, procedures, and methods.
  • Provide approved books, materials, supplies, and equipment for training, courses, and projects.
  • Monitor and record daily class attendance and grades according to established procedures and deadlines.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student advisement and consultation.
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies, faculty meetings, professional growth activities, in-service training, conferences, seminars, and faculty meetings.
  • Refer students to other College personnel or departments as needed.
  • Work with college administration, staff, and faculty to improve college and program operations.
  • Participate in implementing the Program Effectiveness Plan.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Substitute for other instructors within the field or discipline when needed.
  • Maintain stewardship, proper use, cleanliness, and safety of college facilities, department equipment, materials, and supplies; identify unsafe conditions and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Participate in the marketing and recruitment of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with College policies, procedures, applicable laws, and professional standards.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance, report to work as scheduled, and accurately record time worked and time off.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hold a master's degree in a healthcare field.
  • Have knowledge of education standards such as Title IV, Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, and other accreditation standards.
  • Have prior training in instructional methodology and teaching skills through a formal teacher education program, comparable training program, or formal in-house training program.
  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Be able to travel or drive locally weekly, daily, or as needed.
  • Demonstrate bilingual skills.
