What’s the role?
We are seeking an innovative and strategic product focused technology leader to drive ALEX to the next level. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CPTO will drive the company’s product, partnership & technological vision, strategy, and execution to support the design and growth of our core benefits products. This role will be critical in shaping the future of our offerings and ensuring they remain cutting-edge, scalable, and responsive to evolving customer needs.
What you’ll do to be successful
“Product & Tech people” seem to come in many forms. This person will be focused on organizing the team effectively to execute on our priority projects, establish clarity between roles, and ensure there are effective management mechanisms in place so the development teams are working in an agile fashion, releasing value incrementally to the market. Again, you’ll own the roadmap and org to whip us into shape (aka return us to sustainable, profitable growth).
1.) Product and Technology Strategy and Vision
- Define and execute the product vision, strategy, and roadmap in line with the company’s overall goals and market opportunities.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies to keep the company’s products at the forefront of innovation.
- Drive long-term product planning, including exploring new business models and revenue streams, and partnering with the sales team to identify paths to monetization.
- Develop a long-term vision for the evolution of the platform, incorporating emerging technologies and market trends in the benefits industry.
- Ensure the product and technology strategy supports seamless integration with clients’ existing HRIS, payroll, and other benefits-related systems.
2.) Product Development and Innovation:
- Lead the engineering and product teams in designing, developing, and launching new benefits products or enhancements to existing offerings.
- Identify opportunities for innovation in benefits technology, user experience, and automation of complex workflows.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and customer success teams to deliver customer-centric solutions.
3.) Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and manage the entire product lifecycle, including ideation, design, development, launch, and post-launch optimization.
- Drive the recruitment and retention of top talent across engineering, product development, and IT functions.
- Champion the use of agile methodologies and modern product development practices to maximize efficiency and adaptability.
4.) Customer-Centric Product Design:
- Ensure a customer-first approach by integrating user feedback, data analytics, and customer insights into product decisions.
- Conduct market research, user testing, and A/B testing to refine and optimize products.
- Create a seamless user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) for all products, focusing on simplicity, scalability, and innovation.
5.) Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Leverage data and analytics to inform product decisions, track product performance, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Define key product metrics (KPIs) and ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Continuously optimize product features based on data-driven insights to enhance product market fit and customer satisfaction.
6.) Security and Compliance
- Oversee the design and implementation of secure, scalable, and compliant technology solutions in line with industry standards (HIPAA, SOC2, etc.).
- Ensure that all products and platforms adhere to the highest security protocols to protect sensitive benefits and employee data.
Experience & Skills you’ll need
- Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior product or technology leadership role, preferably within a benefits, HR technology, or SaaS organization.
- Strong background in product-focused development, particularly in the areas of employee benefits, HR software, or related domains.
- Extensive experience with modern software development practices (agile, DevOps, continuous integration).
- Knowledge of benefits administration, insurance, and compliance (HIPAA, COBRA, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and inspire large cross-functional technology teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technology strategies to diverse audiences.
- Strategic Vision: Ability to translate business goals into technology strategies that drive product innovation and business growth.
- Execution Focused: Proven track record of delivering high-quality products on time and within budget.
- Customer-Centric Mindset: Passion for creating products that enhance the customer experience and deliver measurable value.
- Collaborative Leadership: Strong leadership with an emphasis on team building, empowerment, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of cloud architectures, data security, API integrations, and modern development frameworks.

The Details
- Location: Remote
- Starting Salary: $300,000 - $330,000
- Additional Compensation: this position is eligible for an annual bonus
