Requirements
  • A valid Indiana Licensed Practical Nurse license is required.
  • An LPN qualification from an accredited or state-approved school of nursing is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Perform professional nursing services, including resident assessments, recording vital signs, administering medications and enemas, catheterization, sterile-technique dressing, oxygen setup and administration, and physical and emotional care.
  • Assess each resident’s health and mental status during the shift, make rounds according to facility standards, and report changes in condition promptly and accurately.
  • Document nursing care, medication administration, incident reports, physician orders, and other aspects of care in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
  • Respond promptly to facility, resident, and staff emergencies.
  • Prepare written reports and provide verbal reports on unusual or abnormal observations, emergency care, resident needs, family concerns, physician-order changes, narcotic records, follow-up care, care-plan revisions, and other changes affecting resident care.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, families, friends, pharmacies, and others regarding resident needs and concerns.
  • Use verbal and physical communication to address the emotional, social, and spiritual needs of residents, families, and staff.
  • Assign nursing personnel to specific jobs and spot-check their work to ensure standards are met.
  • Follow community policies, procedures, and applicable local and state regulations.
  • Attend in-service training and educational seminars as needed to maintain the professional license and stay current with nursing practices.
