Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in a discipline relating to biomedical sciences is required.
  • Current Medical Laboratory Science certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification is required, and the degree and certification must be completed by the position start date.
  • Previous work experience in settings specializing in clinical testing is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Medical Laboratory Science-aligned courses is required.
  • Evidence of an active research program adaptable to mentoring Brigham Young University undergraduate and graduate students is required.
  • Applicants must provide the specified cover letter, teaching statement, research and mentoring statement, mission alignment statement, and current curriculum vitae with education, relevant experience, accomplishments, certification documentation, and at least three professional references.
  • Faculty must abide by the university’s Honor Code and Dress and Grooming Standards.
Responsibilities
  • Teach hands-on undergraduate courses in Medical Laboratory Science-related areas, including clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, hematology, immunohematology, clinical parasitology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • Prepare students to become professionally certified and enter the Medical Laboratory Science workforce.
  • Carry out original research projects involving undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Produce consistent publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Mentor students for careers in science, medicine, or aligned fields.
  • Dedicate substantial effort to committee work supporting program offerings, student experiences, and faculty development.
  • Teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the affiliated church’s principles and doctrine.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science is preferred.
  • Postdoctoral experience is preferred.
