- At least 1 year of experience operating a hydraulic crane, preferably in the scrap metal industry, excluding overhead cranes.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic crane systems and diesel engine operations.
- Knowledge of the scrap metal industry.
- Basic literacy in English or Spanish.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and follow written and oral supervisor directives.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, rotating day and night shifts, and changing assignments or schedules.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and in an industrial environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Must pass a drug screen, background check, and E-Verify.
- Ability to hear audible warning signals and communicate by speech and hearing.
- Safely and efficiently operate a hydraulic mobile crane to lift, move, and place scrap commodities throughout the facility.
- Use a crane or material handler to load and unload trucks and railcars.
- Recognize and remove non-conforming or prohibited materials.
- Recognize and separate different commodities and grades of scrap metal.
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities using hand or audio signals from team members.
- Perform daily inspections, safety checks, preventative maintenance, and repairs of the crane, grapple, and magnet; report equipment deficiencies or malfunctions to management.
- Perform and document daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Operate equipment safely and appropriately while adhering to company health, safety, environmental, OSHA, and PPE requirements.
- Provide a safe environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
- Perform other job-related duties assigned by management and supervisors.
- Experience with Liebherr 944, Sennebogen 840, or equivalent equipment.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish.
