Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field is required.
  • The Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society designation is required.
  • Five years of experience in property and casualty pricing or ratemaking is preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and analytical tools including SQL, R, and Python is required.
  • Strong communication skills are required to interpret technical documents and respond to stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Review experience by line of business and perform actuarial analyses, including rate indications and relativity analysis.
  • Perform competitive analysis using competitor filings to support the development of marketable rating plans.
  • Develop and refine rating structures considering pricing competitiveness, systems impact, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop new insurance products and innovate rating plans.
  • Analyze product profitability and sensitivity to key assumptions, providing insights for pricing and underwriting.
  • Analyze loss data and render opinions to support premium growth and risk mitigation.
  • Assess and quantify financial, market, and operational risks.
  • Develop models to evaluate the financial implications of uncertain future events and improve financial decision-making.
  • Present rate proposals to management and collaborate on implementation of rate actions.
  • Provide actuarial support for filings, create specifications for rate and methodology changes, and oversee regulatory filings, including certification.
  • Monitor statutes, regulations, and bulletins to determine pricing impacts and ensure compliance.
  • Use data mining and predictive modeling techniques to identify patterns and relationships.
  • Analyze and clean data and present findings clearly and accurately.
  • Use modeling and analytical software, including Excel, SQL, R, and Python.
  • Determine data requirements and definitions with system management and evaluate data accuracy.
  • Assess the company's position and recommend strategies to achieve optimal profitability.
  • Evaluate and propose alternative business strategies.
  • Review existing processes and controls, provide recommendations, and document improvements.
  • Assess the actuarial implications of business decisions.
  • Participate in peer reviews to ensure quality and drive innovation.
  • Assist internal departments with inquiries related to rates, rules, and pricing.
  • Make presentations and respond to external customer inquiries.
  • Represent the company with regulators, auditors, and other external partners as needed.
  • Train and mentor staff on rating procedures and identify training needs for new associates.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts and influence outcomes without direct authority.
  • Maintain strong relationships across departments and levels.
  • Travel as required by business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fellow designation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance is preferred.
