  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or doctoral degree (DNP) is required from an accredited academic program within the nursing specialty field.
  • At least 3 years of post-graduate and post-licensure experience is required, with experience within the last 4 years.
  • A current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty is required.
  • Experience and practice in FNP, ACPCNP, or AGACNP, with hands-on knowledge and experience related to gastrointestinal specialties and patient care, are required.
  • A National Provider Identifier (NPI), BLE, and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number are required.
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or a recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross is required.
  • A National Provider Identifier (NPI) from CMMS is required.
  • Candidates must complete all privileging, credentialing, licensure, certification, and onboarding requirements before providing services.
  • Candidates must be able to work flexible shifts as mission needs require, including possible days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or adjusted schedules.
Responsibilities
  • Prescribe for and treat gastrointestinal diseases, disorders, and injuries.
  • Apply medical, biological, and physical sciences related to the gastrointestinal specialty area.
  • Recognize emergency conditions to diagnose, prescribe for, and treat diseases, disorders, and injuries.
  • Perform routine physical examinations and manage moderately complex acute and chronic illnesses in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Perform initial patient work-ups and assess patient care and treatment.
  • Determine the need for and order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other procedures required to assess patients.
  • Distinguish normal from abnormal findings and recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
  • Monitor adherence to established gastroenterology policies and procedures to stabilize chronically ill patients.
  • Adjust treatment regimens within established protocols and recognize when to refer patients to a gastroenterologist or return them to their primary care manager.
  • Make decisions concerning patients' gastroenterology needs with physicians.
  • Collaborate with physicians to evaluate and revise therapeutic plans.
  • Complete outpatient record entries, progress notes, admission and discharge paperwork, and narrative summaries as required under CRDAMC medical treatment facility policies and regulations.
  • Ensure inpatient treatment documents and narrative summaries are countersigned by the attending physician.
  • Provide emergency services or crisis interventions in the absence of the physician, including lifesaving emergency procedures.
  • Manage an assigned panel of outpatient clinic patients.
  • Occasionally provide preceptorship or teaching for physician extenders, students, residents, fellows, technicians, and volunteers.
