Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Work Experience: 2 years minimum of customer service skills
  • Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and shift changes
  • Must be familiar with the Hospital layout to direct patients
  • Must be physically able to push a wheelchair
  • Must be willing to meet staffing needs of the department and be available to work overtime, holidays, and shift changes
  • Must remain informed and compliant with HIPAA, EMTALA, the Fair Debt and Collection Practices Act, Medicare Secondary Payer, and other laws and regulations that govern Patient Financial Services
  • Must remain informed regarding all PPO, HMO, and Medicare, Medi-Cal and indigent service programs and requirements for timely processing of claims
  • Must be BLS certified each year
Responsibilities
  • Interview incoming patients (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department) to obtain all pertinent data for admission and produce a complete and accurate admission record including medical record information, demographic and financial related information
  • Answer all inquiries related to admissions
  • Collect deposits or payments
  • Interact with nursing units and ancillary departments and provide directions to various areas within the hospital
  • Acknowledge patients or guests and their requests
  • Be professional in dress, grooming, and hygiene
  • Assist in the training of new employees
  • Document any financial arrangements made in the patient’s account notes and notify managers of problem accounts
  • Exhibit concern, tact and discretion in all working relationships
  • Report unsafe issues and maintain safety awareness
  • Uphold highest service standards regarding patient care and make patient needs the first priority
  • Work cross trained in Inpatient, Outpatient, Bed Board, and Emergency Room
  • Be familiar with Hospital layout to direct patients
  • Be physically able to push a wheelchair
  • Meet department productivity goal of registering a minimum of 20 patients per shift and maintain an account accuracy rate of no less than 80%
  • Perform registrations timely within 20 minutes
  • Complete shift logs in the Emergency Department
  • Complete required courses within 90 days of hire and competency every two years for current employees
