  • Two years of experience in a store or warehouse environment.
  • Completion of some high school.
  • Willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada as related to the position responsibilities.
  • Ability to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds without assistance, including bending, twisting, pulling, and pushing products.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks satisfactory to The Salvation Army.
Responsibilities
  • Interact with customers and donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Protect the integrity of all donated items.
  • Accurately complete customer transactions, including cash and debit sales.
  • Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
  • Open and close the store according to store procedures when required.
  • Process donated materials by loading, unloading, sorting, packing, pricing, and storing them.
  • Use knowledge of stock to respond to customer inquiries by phone and in person.
  • Monitor store activity to support store security.
  • Handle merchandise safely and in an organized manner and assist with stock rotation.
  • Receive, sort, and price inventory according to directions.
  • Assist with store layout plans, window displays, and merchandise displays to maintain an attractive store.
  • Replenish inventory levels according to supervisor directions.
  • Remove inventory from the sales floor as directed.
  • Maintain proper sorting and processing of donated goods in compliance with quality standards.
  • Maintain an organized store appearance by tidying, restocking shelves, cleaning, sweeping, dusting, and mopping as necessary.
  • Follow store policies and procedures.
  • Assist with inventory reconciliation through cycle counting.
  • Provide service to guests and donors.
  • Act as a team lead or working supervisor for store associates in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Show staff how to perform certain procedures and provide on-the-job training when required.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment through compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
