Applied Materials’ CTO Office Department is searching for an intern to join our team in 2023! The Office of the CTO pursues new and adjacent markets through materials engineering. We are looking for a passionate technologist with a machine learning background to apply explore novel algorithms applied optical simulation and metrology:
Internship Goals:
- Explore machine learning and novel optimization algorithms to suggest the best approaches to real-world problems in nano-photonics simulation and metrology
- Implement an optimization routine to deliver a 10x-100x computational burden reduction to a specific nano-photonics simulation problem
Education:
- MS/PhD degree in in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or related field
- Specialization in Machine Learning and Optimization algorithms
Requirements
- Proficiency in a variety of machine learning, optimization and control algorithms
- Proficiency with popular open-source machine learning libraries such as Tensor Flow
- Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python
- Familiarity with optics and electromagnetics
- Enthusiasm about solving detailed real-world challenges in device simulation and manufacturing
- Effective in communication of advantages, disadvantages, accuracy and risks of different machine learning techniques and technical choices
Compensation
$41 - $50 per hour
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and education level and will vary depending on confirmed job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
