Requirements
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS
  • NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant
  • Certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCPBOC)
  • 3-year supervised internship
  • 5 years’ experience in anatomic pathology under the direction and supervision of a licensed, Board Certified or Board Eligible Anatomic Pathologist
Responsibilities
  • Assure proper specimen collection and submission prior to accessioning.
  • Assist clinicians with specimen collection questions, triage of limited samples, and esoteric testing.
  • Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and/or verification of unique patient identifiers.
  • Assure proper specimen handling and fixation prior to processing.
  • Obtain and review pertinent clinical information and history, including imaging studies, laboratory results, and operative records.
  • Discuss cases and history with surgeons, clinicians, and pathologists.
  • Perform the macroscopic description and dissection of all surgical specimens ranging from simple to complex cases includingpertinent macroscopic information for the staging of complex cancer cases.
  • Prepare and submit tissue sections for light microscopy.
  • Obtain samples for ancillary studies including, but not limited to:o Tumor triageo Lymphoma protocolo Flow cytometric analysiso Immunofluorescenceo Immunohistochemistryo Microbial cultivationo Molecular microbiologyo Cytogenetic analysiso Electron microscopyo Tissue banking and clinical trialso Researcho Microarrayo Institutional tumor registries.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging. The facility offers advanced treatments including bispecific therapies and clinical trial participation, with plans to expand outpatient cell therapy programmes. Six board-certified medical oncologists and haematologists, supported by four advanced practice practitioners, provide care through a collaborative, patient-centred model. The opening represents a hospital-specialty collaboration aimed at bringing complex therapies closer to patients' homes. FCS operates six other locations in Pinellas County and has delivered oncology care in Florida for over 40 years.
