Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Aviation background and aircraft interior experience.
  • Strong computer-aided drafting and design skills in 3D and 2D, with Inventor preferred and AutoCAD experience.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard practices, fasteners, materials, component parts, and specifying supplied parts.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design for manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection.
  • Knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting standards, including ANSI Y14.5.
  • Understanding of mechanical motion modeling and weight-and-balance analysis.
  • Ability to check engineering drawings for fit, form, and function.
  • Ability to meet strict schedule, budget, and technical-solution requirements with minimal margin of error.
  • Ability to adapt to tailored prototype-engineering processes.
  • Knowledge of mechanical aircraft structures, monuments, ceilings, sidewalls, flooring, placards, and original-equipment-manufacturer modifications.
  • Knowledge of avionics equipment locating, provisioning, and installations for line-replaceable units.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to work outside core business hours as required.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of extended sitting, lifting or moving specified weights, and close/color vision with focus adjustment.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person for programs subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations; qualifying statuses include U.S. citizenship, permanent residency subject to the stated restrictions, or political asylum.
Responsibilities
  • Create complex designs of VIP aircraft interiors and/or structures using computer-aided drafting and design tools.
  • Design mechanical aircraft interior furnishings and structures such as ceilings, sidewalls, original-equipment-manufacturer modifications, flooring, floor structures, and ceiling grids.
  • Analyze and interpret subsystem and project specifications.
  • Select materials for mechanical designs based on structural needs and material specifications.
  • Evaluate trade-offs involving materials, hardness, composites, treatments, coatings, and other selections to meet design objectives.
  • Work with materials suppliers and support material testing when needed.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced part counts, manufacturing costs, assembly errors, and other production-cost and quality factors.
  • Apply bills of materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications.
  • Ensure designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
  • Adhere to budgets and project schedules.
  • Provide design guidance and feedback to other engineering personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of mechanical design practices, materials, components, and software design tools.
  • Find or create solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Work with the Design Department to develop aesthetic product designs that meet market needs and customer acceptance.
  • Provide liaison engineering support.
  • Support test-setup preparation and test-report development.
  • Maintain regular attendance and work assigned full shifts.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
