Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team
  • Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT (NM)) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist license or registry eligible
  • Basic Life Support certification
Responsibilities
  • Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patients’ exam, utilizing compassion, empathy, and respect.
  • Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team, communicating effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures.
  • Operates the department equipment to perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine exams.
  • Performs the necessary computer processing/analysis of exam data.
  • Performs gamma camera quality control procedures.
  • Prepares the appropriate radiopharmaceutical, assays the dose in the dose calibrator, and safely administers the dose to the patient, and disposes of the radioactive material properly.
  • Follows the necessary radiation safety techniques and procedures designed to minimize exposure levels to patients, visitors, staff and themselves.
  • Maintains records in accordance with the terms and conditions of our Massachusetts Radioactive Material License and other required documentation accurately, legibly and timely.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment to enhance patient satisfaction and a culture of safety.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and orders radioactive materials from vendors when needed.
  • Assists in the daily operation of the department.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures.
  • Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.
  • Minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes the infection control protocols.
  • Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.
  • Coordinates work schedule with departmental supervisor to maintain adequate staffing levels to meet our patients’ and physicians’ needs.
  • Responds to equipment issues timely to ensure optimum operations and equipment quality and long-term equipment maintenance and life.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the accreditation process.
