  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Review department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
  • Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual and ensure nursing personnel follow it.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain each resident’s total care regimen.
  • Participate in the nursing service quality assurance program and facility surveys.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with nursing service discharge planning.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents; complete related forms, reports, census records, charge slips, and documentation.
  • Protect resident and facility information by maintaining password confidentiality, protecting protected health information, and reporting unauthorized access.
  • Complete and file records and charts for resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe physician orders to resident records, medication cards, treatment plans, and care plans.
  • Chart nursing notes, accidents, incidents, diet changes, transfers, and routine care in accordance with documentation procedures.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments after verifying resident identity.
  • Maintain medication, narcotic, supply, and equipment inventories and report discrepancies or shortages.
  • Review medication cards, follow stop-order policies, notify physicians of automatic stop orders, and dispose of medications and narcotics according to procedure.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, staffing determinations, and recommendations concerning employee dismissals or transfers.
  • Develop work assignments, provide leadership to assigned nursing personnel, conduct rounds, and report problem areas to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Ensure nursing assistants and nurse aide trainees meet training and supervision requirements.
  • Receive and give nursing reports at shift changes and report staffing issues, occupational exposures, fraud, and security incidents.
  • Inform nursing personnel about new admissions and prepare rooms for new residents.
  • Orient new residents and family members to the facility and make physician rounds as needed.
  • Arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services and consult physicians regarding resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Review charts, implement nursing standards, verify treatments, evaluate resident status, and coordinate direct care with care plans.
  • Provide catheterization, tube feeding, suctioning, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, range-of-motion exercises, and other professional nursing services.
  • Use restraints according to policy, monitor seriously ill residents, and notify physicians and next of kin of accidents or changes in condition.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs and inspect nursing treatment areas for cleanliness and safety.
  • Coordinate resident social and activity programs with nursing schedules and ensure residents’ dietary and care-plan needs are met.
  • Arrange transportation for discharged residents, escort discharged residents, notify families of deaths, contact funeral homes when requested, and follow post-mortem procedures.
  • Develop, plan, conduct, and schedule in-service training; orient new employees; standardize work methods; and assist with clinical supervision of nurse aide trainees.
  • Attend outside training, facility in-service training, advance-directive training, and continuing education programs.
  • Monitor safety practices, personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness, and hazardous-condition reporting.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary nursing work areas and resident care areas.
  • Recommend and maintain appropriate medication, supply, and equipment stock; ensure safe operation by trained personnel; and prevent waste.
  • Review resident care plans daily, communicate needed changes, ensure nursing notes reflect care-plan compliance, and assist with Minimum Data Set and Resident Assessment Protocol planning.
  • Provide data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee and report suspected fraud involving false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
