- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, or at least one year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a patient-care setting.
- Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification is required.
- Current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant through an accepted certifying agency is required.
- Applicants with certifications or registrations from agencies not listed may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Perform patient care under the direction of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory setting.
- Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process-improvement activities.
- Communicate professionally with patients and family members.
- Collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
- Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
- Prepare patients and families for examinations.
- Assist physicians or Advanced Practice Providers during examinations and procedures.
- Demonstrate competency in practice-defined clinical tasks and skills.
- Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
- Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
- Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing and physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
- Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
- Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
- Follow organizational and department policies, procedures, value statements, and quality standards.
- Follow patient-safety and infection-control practices.
- Maintain punctual and reasonably regular attendance in accordance with applicable policies and standards.
- Provide age-appropriate patient care and assess data according to patients' needs.
- Apply knowledge of medical-legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Use supplies efficiently.
- Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
- Dermatology experience is preferred.
