Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and two years of related work experience, an associate's degree and three years of related work experience, or a high school diploma/GED and five or more years of related work experience is required.
  • Required related experience includes operations, maintenance, or construction of power generation, transmission, or distribution equipment.
  • Computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office, Maximo/DataSplice, Engage/ePlan, and OSS or other work management systems.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and render sound business decisions is required.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple concurrent assignments, and maintain attention to detail is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers, support staff, management, and union personnel, are required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • NYC S-95 certification is required.
  • NYC S-12 certification is required.
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies and work non-business hours during emergency assignments, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.
  • Ability to work in all weather and adverse conditions, including noise, confined spaces, high elevations, high-voltage or high-energy systems, and excessive heat or cold, is required.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work on elevated platforms and scaffolds, and enter manholes, excavations, and confined spaces is required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach for the duration of the workday is required.
  • Ability to use hand tools, operate heavy machinery such as jackhammers, and adjust equipment controls is required.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including fire-retardant clothing, safety harnesses, respirators, and self-contained breathing apparatus, is required.
  • Ability to travel to company locations for storm restoration and heat contingencies is required.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays, is required.
  • Ability to use a personal vehicle and transport, store, and secure company laptops and job-related equipment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise Senior Substation Operators, Assistant Substation Operators, GUWs, field personnel, mechanics, engineering inspectors, and other subordinate personnel in substation operations, maintenance, construction, repair, and inspection activities.
  • Coach, schedule, train, and conduct safety discussions with personnel.
  • Order, coordinate, and ensure the timely availability and delivery of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Certify accounts and approve expenditures for labor, materials, petty cash, supplies, and equipment within prescribed limits.
  • Interface with Electric Operations, Transmission Operations, Central Engineering, and other personnel entering substations.
  • Attend daily management meetings, report job progress, understand work scopes, and submit clear and concise Work Permit Requests.
  • Ensure operation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of transmission and area substation equipment and structures comply with operating procedures.
  • Ensure station compliance items and equipment preventive maintenance activities are completed on time according to department procedures and specifications.
  • Work with Field Planners and Central Planning to improve work plans and provide feedback on plans.
  • Assign personnel to jobs in accordance with the Weekly Work Schedule and station schedule.
  • Ensure personnel comply with company and departmental rules and regulations, and enforce procedures concerning equal employment opportunity, substance abuse, discipline, and security.
  • Ensure environmental, health, and safety work practices are followed in accordance with company policy and governmental regulations.
  • Conduct environmental, health, and safety lectures, on-the-job training, job briefings, and documented job-site safety exchanges.
  • Enforce good housekeeping and safe job setups.
  • Ensure personnel, tools, and materials are used safely and effectively, and incorporate Human Performance Improvement tools into daily activities.
  • Promote operational excellence, effective cost management, diversity and inclusion, and a zero-accident culture.
  • Follow company work principles, standards of business conduct, and other company procedures, and perform related tasks and assignments as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Technical experience or working knowledge in the operation, maintenance, construction, inspection, and repair of electrical transmission and distribution systems is preferred, including substation operations, switchgear installation, grounding practices, circuit breaker mechanics, and electrical distribution transformers.
