Requirements
  • One year of field experience repairing heavy construction equipment is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of heavy construction machinery components, including diesel engines, power transmissions, hydrostatic drives, open- and closed-circuit hydraulics, and compensating systems is required.
  • Diagnostic capability with hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems on modern construction equipment is required.
  • Knowledge or experience with Caterpillar ET/SIS, Volvo Prosis/Tech Tool, and Cummins INSITE is required.
  • Basic skills with an oxyacetylene torch are required.
  • Basic stick-welding skills using 7018 and 6010 electrodes are required.
  • The candidate must be able to arrange schedules, recommend machinery for repair downtime, and order parts.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and safely.
  • The candidate must be able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • The candidate must have sufficient industry-standard tools for the job; the company does not provide them.
  • The candidate must comply with applicable hours-of-service requirements and Trimble/Telogis regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain production equipment so it remains safe and effective and production and quality targets are met.
  • Assist equipment technicians or service personnel with technical support by phone, email, or directly at the job site.
  • Communicate quickly and accurately with field personnel and dispatch.
  • Ensure repair quality to minimize recalls and duplicate work.
  • Comply with governmental, company safety, and Human Resources policies.
  • Review shop tool requirements to improve work efficiency.
  • Observe and report deficiencies to improve the preventive-maintenance program and identify possible additions.
  • Participate in technical training with dealers or manufacturers and pass that training on to other mechanics.
  • Coordinate with the Field Services Dispatcher and parts personnel to ensure timely parts delivery.
  • Work with internal departments, field managers, superintendents, and field mechanics.
  • Perform required overtime as needed.
  • Keep the service truck clean and orderly.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable hours-of-service requirements and Trimble/Telogis regulations.
  • Perform other assigned job-related duties.

  • A high school diploma, GED, or trade school education is preferred.
  • The ability to make repair decisions quickly and rationally is desirable.
  • The ability to keep sensitive material confidential is desirable.
  • The ability to give and receive written or oral instructions is desirable.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to change is desirable.
