Requirements
  • A completed or nearly complete Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Working proficiency with SolidWorks, including editing existing models and updating dimensions and sizing, is required.
  • Hands-on experience with FDM and SLA 3D printing, including slicing software, printer operation, and post-processing, is required.
  • Comfort with precision hand-assembly of small mechanical and electromechanical parts, including fasteners, adhesives, connectors, and light wiring, is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong attention to detail and disciplined documentation.
  • The candidate must be comfortable interacting directly with study participants in a professional, welcoming, and reassuring manner.
  • Strong written communication skills are required for drafting standard operating procedures, test plans, and reports.
  • The candidate must be able to stand or sit at a workbench for extended periods, lift and carry up to 15 pounds, operate hand tools, 3D printers, and shop equipment, and work in close physical proximity to study participants during fittings, measurements, and scans.
Responsibilities
  • Update and resize 3D models, such as SolidWorks models, to fit a range of sizes and configurations using measurement data and fit feedback.
  • 3D print components on fused deposition modeling and stereolithography printers, including slicing, print setup, support removal, curing, and cleanup.
  • Fabricate and machine components using standard shop tools, including hand tools, a drill press, sanding and filing tools, adhesives, and fasteners.
  • Assemble printed and fabricated components into complete assemblies, integrating sensors, wiring, and mechanical hardware.
  • Validate assembled devices on the benchtop test system by following established test protocols.
  • Collect, organize, and log device performance data for engineering review.
  • Maintain build and test records, including build logs, deviations, and part traceability, in accordance with design-control documentation practices.
  • Track component inventory and consumables, including filament, resin, fasteners, and sensors, and flag reorder needs.
  • Work with mechanical, software, and electrical engineers to troubleshoot fit, assembly, and performance issues and support root-cause investigations of build defects.
  • Design and fabricate test fixtures for repeatable mechanical, electrical, and functional testing of devices and subassemblies.
  • Execute test protocols and test plans across benchtop, functional, and environmental testing, accurately recording setup conditions, procedures, and observations.
  • Analyze and report test data and summarize findings for engineering review.
