- A minimum of a High School Diploma.
- Certification in the state of application as a Registered Dental Assistant (California, Arizona, or Nevada).

- Current CPR and ACLS certificates.
- A current radiation safety certificate for the state in which they practice.

- Ability to build good rapport with patients and staff.

- Assist the Oral Surgeon at the chair while they are engaged in any treatment of patients.
- Anticipate the dentist’s needs and be prepared for next steps.
- Ensure all Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Dental Board, and Western Dental policies and procedures are properly followed.
- Maintain proper patient treatment records.
- Give pre- and post-operative instructions within the limits designated by the Oral Surgeon.
- Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients.
- Turn on all units, switches, and water before the patient sits down.
- Stock supplies in operatories, restrooms, laboratory, and other areas as needed.
- Inform the Floor Supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
- Inform the Floor Supervisor about broken or malfunctioning equipment.
- Perform all duties of a sterilizer when deemed necessary.
- Take dental x-rays as directed by the Oral Surgeon and follow applicable developing procedures and infection-control procedures.
- Experience as an Oral Surgeon Assistant.
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant or Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Examination certification.
- Bilingual Spanish and English communication ability.
