Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Direct experience developing, implementing, and managing donor relations programs, preferably in an academic or higher education setting.
  • Experience managing and coaching a team of high-performing professionals.
  • High-level expertise managing donor-focused projects and events from strategic development through final execution.
  • Knowledge and understanding of McGill University Advancement and its priorities is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timetables.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Initiative and the ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Client-focused interpersonal skills and a professional presence and manner, with independent judgment and flexibility.
  • Ability to work with a broad group of external and internal constituents.
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills in English and French.
  • Ability to work in a personal computer environment using Microsoft Office and client-server database software.
  • Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of a donor-centered stewardship and recognition framework to enhance donor engagement, satisfaction, and long-term philanthropic commitment.
  • Build short- and long-term donor-relations action plans and contribute to the annual plans of other University Advancement units.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive donor-relations program in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Oversee, coach, and manage the team responsible for developing and executing donor-relations activities supporting Faculty and University priorities.
  • Hire, train, coach, and mentor staff; set departmental and individual goals; evaluate progress and provide regular feedback.
  • Ensure donor-relations activities align with the University's strategic plan, vision, and overall Advancement-unit direction.
  • Ensure donors' expectations are met and best practices are followed.
  • Support Faculty priorities through consistent communication and collaboration with Faculty Development Leads, Deans, and other Faculty representatives.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in developing stewardship strategies for individual priority donors and time-limited campaigns.
  • Maintain collaboration and communication with development staff, Advancement Operations, University Advancement Communications, and Alumni Engagement to align activities and timelines and improve cross-unit efficiency.
  • Contribute to developing University policies related to donor relations in consultation with stakeholders within University Advancement and across campus.
  • Develop and communicate internal processes, protocols, and guidelines supporting effective and strategic stewardship.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of donor impact reports and stewardship communications demonstrating philanthropic outcomes.
  • Define metrics for the Donor Relations program, analyze data to monitor strategy effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with Advancement Operations on the continued development of technical infrastructure supporting donor-relations programs and activities across campus.
  • Collaborate with Development and Prospect and Pipeline Management partners to align stewardship and cultivation programs, strategies, systems, and tools.
  • Provide workshops, information sessions, and individual training on donor-relations processes and systems to Advancement and University-wide colleagues.
  • Establish and maintain formal connections with University partners to improve collaboration on donor-relations processes between central University Advancement and other units.
  • Offer training, workshops, and informational materials as needed.
  • Undertake special projects required by University and Advancement priorities and opportunities.

Club M&A and McGill's Dobson Centre launch acquisition programme as $218B in Canadian businesses set for ownership transition

Club M&A Canada and McGill's Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship have opened registration for their first Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition programme. The intensive four-day course, running 27–30 October in Montreal, targets professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs interested in acquiring existing small or medium-sized businesses. The programme addresses a significant succession challenge in Canada. According to the Business Development Bank of Canada, nearly one in five Canadian businesses will undergo ownership transition within five years, representing over $300 billion in business revenue. Marc Deegan, founder of R33 Ventures, will serve as programme director. The curriculum covers developing investment theses, target evaluation, financial and legal considerations, acquisition financing, and post-acquisition transition. Instructors include transaction professionals, lawyers, tax specialists, investors, and entrepreneurs with acquisition experience. Admission is by application, with no prior M&A experience required.
