  • A Master's degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioners program are required.
  • Two years of registered nurse, advanced practice, or nurse practitioner clinical experience are required.
  • A Texas Registered Nurse license or compact licensure is required, with a permanent Texas license required within 60 days when establishing Texas residency.
  • An Acute Care Advanced Practice Registered Nurse state license is required.
  • Magnet ANCC-recognized Acute-Care practitioner certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Texas prescriptive authority is required.
  • A Drug Enforcement Administration narcotics license must be obtained within six months.
  • The role requires proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • The role requires clinical assessment, documentation, leadership, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, time-management, critical-thinking, and clinical-judgment skills.
  • The role requires the ability to function independently and exercise judgment while collaborating with physicians, the interprofessional care team, patients, and families.
Responsibilities
  • Provide all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatment, consultation, preventative-care education, physical examinations, test ordering, and medication prescribing as appropriate.
  • Provide direct patient care according to the Texas Nurse Practice Act and Houston Methodist professional practice policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate appropriate and timely care for defined patient populations under physician supervision.
  • Coordinate care between healthcare providers and participate in interprofessional rounds.
  • Conduct initial, ongoing, and discharge health assessments; identify normal and abnormal health characteristics; develop care plans; initiate interventions; and evaluate outcomes.
  • Perform invasive, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures permitted by licensure and credentialed privileges.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare team members to manage and coordinate patient care and resolve clinical and ethical concerns.
  • Serve as a clinical resource, interprofessional consultant, patient advocate, and preceptor for Nurse Practitioner students and medical residents as applicable.
  • Develop and implement protocols supporting patient safety and lead outcome, quality, and safety improvement activities.
  • Integrate and contribute to professional practice standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Implement department strategies through timely documentation, reducing length of stay, optimizing efficiency, and supporting financial targets.
  • Promote evidence-based care through research participation, presentations, publications, practice changes, and performance improvement.
  • Provide professional education and maintain nursing knowledge, skills, and career-development plans.
  • Coach colleagues and staff in professional growth, communication, knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes.
