Madison College is recruiting a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates to teach part time courses for the Safety Education program, which includes Group Dynamics, Multiple Offenders and Traffic Safety. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis for the 2026-2027 academic school year. SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for classroom instruction using a standardized curriculum. General traffic safety topics and issues are the focus of the course. Applicants must meet the certification requirements of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation prior to hire.
This position works closely with the Program Director of Safety Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Responsible for classroom instruction in traffic/highway safety.
2. Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies.
3. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, course content, and other academic matters.
4. Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback.
5. Integrate the use of technology into the teaching and learning process.
6. Design and implement strategies to engage students in the learning process.
7. Function in a team environment with the ability to support a cohesive department atmosphere.
8. Comply with college policies and directions regarding submitting grades, recordkeeping, and maintaining office hours for student assistance.
9. Participate in all mandatory Safety Education and Department of Transportation workshops and in-service training activities.
10. Adhere to the procedures established by the Safety Education Program and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
11. Plan and implement professional development strategies to continually improve teaching and professional experience.
12. Maintain a satisfactory driver record.
13. Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
14. Demonstrate a commitment to the college values of excellence, respect and integrity.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITES & SKILLS:
1. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, learner-centered instruction, active learning, and evaluation.
2. Skill in the use of educational technology.
3. Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
4. Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER COURSE:
Traffic Safety:
1. Two (2) years of occupational experience, or comparable experience and education in the area of traffic safety or a related field.
2. Monitor the Wisconsin Technical College general traffic safety course and have completed a one semester, 45 hours, traffic safety studies or accident prevention course.
3. A valid driver license.
4. A satisfactory driver record.
Group Dynamics:
To be certified as a group dynamics instructor, applicants must meet at least 2 of the 3 subsections, including (1) (a), (2) (a) or (3) (a) at the time of application.
1. Traffic Safety experience equal to one of the following:
a. Two years of occupational experience, or comparable experience and education in the area of traffic safety or a related field.
b. Monitor the Wisconsin Technical College general traffic safety course and have completed a one semester, 45 hours, traffic safety studies or accident prevention course.
2. AODA experience equal to one of the following:
a. Two years of occupational experience or comparable experience and education in AODA counseling, education, or treatment related fields.
b. Completed a minimum of 45 hours in an accredited college level course in the area of AODA education or treatment.
3. Group Process experience equal to one of the following:
a. Two years of occupational experience in group process work or group counseling as a treatment or education professional.
b. Completed a minimum of 45 hours in an accredited college level course in the area of group work methods, group counseling or group process.
4. A valid driver license.
5. A satisfactory driver record.
Multiple Offenders:
Applicants must meet at least 2 of the 3 subsections, including (1) (a), (2) (a) or (3) (a) at the time of application.
1. Traffic Safety experience equal to one of the following:
a. Two years of occupational experience, or comparable experience and education in the area of traffic safety or a related field.
b. Monitor the Wisconsin Technical College general traffic safety course and have completed a one semester, 45 hours, traffic safety studies or accident prevention course.
2. AODA experience equal to one of the following:
a. Two years of occupational experience or comparable experience and education in AODA counseling, education, or treatment related fields.
b. Completed a minimum of 45 hours in an accredited college level course in the area of AODA education or treatment.
3. Group Process experience equal to one of the following:
a. Two years of occupational experience in group process work or group counseling as a treatment or education professional.
b. Completed a minimum of 45 hours in an accredited college level course in the area of group work methods, group counseling or group process.
4. Teach at least three group dynamics courses in their entirety or have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in guidance and counseling, psychology, behavioral studies or social work.
5. A valid driver license.
6. A satisfactory driver record.
SPECIALINSTRUCTIONSTOAPPLICANTS:
Madison College utilizes pool postings for all Part-time Instructor positions. This posting is a pool position to collect applications for potential part-time instruction positions. Part-time Instructors are hired on a per course basis each semester, and teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment for the following semester. The teaching hours for a part-time instructor vary and can include day, evening, and weekend classes.
