Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
  • Registration and licensure as a registered pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • A working knowledge of the hospital organization; a general knowledge of nursing and pharmacy theory, practice, and regulations; and familiarity with individual departmental functions, is required.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Will maintain a professional, ethical, and effective working relationship with all employees.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for promoting and supporting the culture and values of UMC
  • Ensure medication orders are processed in a timely manner.
  • Pharmacists will review physician orders and patient profiles for standard and appropriate therapy, including but not limited to: allergies, contraindications, interactions, duplicate therapies, drug/dosing misadventures, renal dosing, IV to PO conversions, therapeutic interchanges. These interventions will be documented electronically when possible
  • Pharmacists will report medication errors into the Med Error/ADR system and/or verbally when appropriate to their supervisor
  • Visually inspect and check medication to be delivered to the patient for accuracy. Ensure right patient, right dose, right frequency, right delivery modality, right route, etc.
  • Pharmacists will follow compounding guidelines according to departmental policy and procedures, Texas State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations, and as outlined in USP 795, 797, and 800 Guidelines. Pharmacists will assist in training and validating pharmacy technicians to ensure compliance. Guidelines include, but are not limited to: obtaining appropriate validations, personal cleansing and gowning, and evaluation of aseptic manipulation skills.
  • Pharmacists will ensure that all pre-packed and/or compounded medications are appropriately labeled and that all required information including the pharmacists signature (initials) are recorded in the log book.
  • Pharmacists will maintain a professional, ethical, and effective working relationship with all nursing staff, LIPs, the general public, and other hospital staff.
  • Provide medication information/education for health care professionals. Information includes but is not limited to appropriate therapy, drug compatibilities, interactions, side effects, contraindications, dosing information, administration, etc.
  • Help supervise the daily workflow and performance of pharmacy technicians

University medical center opens its Safe Haven Baby Box, 5th in Lubbock. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal On Monday, UMC Health System, in partnership with Safe Haven Baby Boxes and community organizations, dedicated and blessed a Safe Haven Baby Box on its main campus. "Ultimately, the Baby Box provides a safe alternative," said Jill Shanklin, vice president of Nursing Excellence & Maternal-Child Services at UMC Health System. "It demonstrates our commitment to infant health and our support of state Safe Haven (Baby Moses) laws." The fully secured, climate-controlled, and monitored device is located at the east-side entrance of Medical Office Plaza II on UMC Health System's Main Campus - located at 808 Joliet Ave. According to UMC, when an infant is placed inside the Baby Box, the exterior door automatically locks and an alarm immediately notifies on-site Urgent Care personnel with the system, ensuring immediate response, medical evaluation, and compassionate care. After being medically checked, the infant is then placed into protective custody, where arrangements are made for ongoing care or adoption. In addition to the physical safety provided by the baby box, parents have access to a 24-hour crisis hotline, as well as education and support resources. Where are the Safe Haven Baby Boxes located around Lubbock? There are five boxes located around Lubbock.
