Requirements
  • Graduation from Registered Nurse Program
  • California Registered Nurse License
  • 1 year clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • BSN desired (if not upon hire, will obtain within 5 years preferred)
  • For Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses: 1 year Nursing experience in an acute care setting such as the ICU, stepdown, or ER preferred; 1 year+ IR, EP, or Cardiac Cath Lab experience preferred
  • For 6th Floor Med/Surg Employees: Two years’ experience with Orthopedic and Medical-Surgical nursing preferred; Certification in Medical-Surgical, Orthopedic or other specialty preferred
  • All certifications must be active effective date of hire/transfer unless otherwise indicated
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other certifications: listed per department (e.g., ED requires BLS, ACLS, PALS, AB508 within 30 days, NIHSS within 30 days, NRP within 6 months, ENPC within 12 months; ICU/5S, 4th Telemetry, 6th Med Surg and Float Pool require BLS, ACLS, NIHSS within 30 days)
  • Surgery: BLS, ACLS; PACU/SDS/GI Lab: BLS, ACLS, PALS; Cath Lab: BLS, ACLS; ED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, AB508, NIHSS, NRP, ENPC; Geropsych: BLS, AB508; ICU/5S, 4th Telemetry, 6th Med Surg and Float Pool: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Minimum Education: Graduation from Registered Nurse Program
  • Decision-making authority as described (scope of practice, patient acuity, judgement and decisions about patient care)
  • Executive Functions: Planning, Directing, Teaching, Delegating, Coordinating, Communicating, Improvement opportunities, other duties as assigned
Responsibilities
  • Assists charge nurse with planning delivery of patient care for the shift
  • Contributes to overall unit planning and improvement
  • Precepting and competency validating new hires and to new procedures
  • Teaching nursing students
  • Delegating to other RNs, LVNs, CNAs as indicated
  • Coordinating Assigned team
  • Communicating expectations to assigned staff (interventions; report back; etc.)
  • Responding to unusual events and opportunities for improvement
  • Providing education and advocacy to patients and families
  • Ensuring compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, CDPH regulations, DNV-GL/NIAHO standards
  • Maintaining a healing environment and safety during patient care
  • Planning and implementing education plan for patients as part of nursing process
  • Implementation of interventions, evaluation and revision of plan as needed
  • Education and advocacy roles for patient and family
  • Maintaining quality improvement and growth of unit services
  • Maintaining patient safety, prevention of harm, and safe passage through hospital stay
  • Clinical leadership and collaboration with departments and co-workers
  • RNs practice to full extent of legal scope of practice
Desired Qualifications
  • BSN preferred
  • Certification in clinical specialty or management desired
  • Current or upcoming certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, AB508, NIHSS, ENPC depending on unit within specified timelines
  • Experience in ortho and stroke patient population preferred
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and growth of unit services preferred
  • Experience in Cardiac Cath Lab or ICU related settings preferred
  • Knowledge of CMS, Title 22, CDPH, DNV-GL/NIAHO standards is desirable
