Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification of completion of a sonography program with emphasis in general ultrasound technology.
  • Ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training from the City of Los Angeles; if not held upon hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support in performing general ultrasound diagnostic studies for pediatric through geriatric patients.
  • Work closely with radiologists during procedures and assist with the interpretive outcome of special procedures.
  • Work independently with ongoing and periodic review through evaluation of results.
  • Perform studies across the applicable technologist levels, including abdominal, kidney, soft tissue, breast, liver, retroperitoneal, pelvic, prostate, thyroid, transplant, transvaginal, transrectal, scrotal, musculoskeletal, obstetric, amniocentesis, and interventional ultrasound procedures.
  • Assist with ultrasound-guided biopsy, paracentesis, thoracentesis, intraoperative ultrasound evaluation, and radiofrequency ablation or drainage procedures as applicable to the technologist level.
  • Function as a patient advocate.
  • Assess patients' knowledge and understanding of their diagnostic procedures.
  • Educate patients and their families about procedures and treatment.
  • Pursue professional growth through formal and informal continuing education regarding equipment and procedures.
  • Participate in after-hours standby and callback as needed by the department.
  • Assist with patient transportation or clerical functions as needed.
  • Participate in department performance improvement work-team projects.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Support ongoing customer satisfaction through hospital-wide service-excellence standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
