Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Understanding of medical terminology is required.
  • Ability to interview patients and interface with physicians, nurses, and other professional staff is required.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) is required within 30 days of hire if the candidate does not have a current card, with renewal before expiration in LA City.
  • The position requires working with physicians in the department or clinic.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical and communication functions in the department or clinic.
  • Schedule patient appointments and provide courteous reception.
  • Answer phones and register new patients.
  • Perform office duties including filing and sorting.
  • Review new patient referrals and authorizations for adequate coding.
  • Perform new patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling as necessary.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and provide a consistent customer service experience.
  • Greet and check in patients at the front desk.
  • Confirm patient availability and review appointment date, time, location, and provider name with callers for accuracy.
  • Act as an advocate and liaison for patients and the Health Center and continuum of care as appropriate.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and professionally, and direct calls to other departments as needed.
  • Use judgment when handling calls, including determining when to escalate calls.
  • Maintain delegated worklists and tasks through the electronic medical record.
  • Use equipment effectively, efficiently, and safely.
  • Handle patient requests and questions appropriately.
  • Provide benefit plan and eligibility information to participants, providers, unions, employers, and others.
  • Adhere to Culinary Health Center and Jayakumar NV PC policies and procedures.
  • Perform care coordinator duties when assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of customer service experience, preferably in a medical environment.
