Requirements
  • Seven to ten years of full-cycle, multi-entity nonprofit fund accounting experience.
  • Two to three years of experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience and proficiency with Sage Intacct or similar enterprise resource planning systems, plus proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Thorough understanding of financial statements, balance sheet accounts, financial statement analysis, and reconciliations.
  • Understanding of payment transactions from payment acceptance through reconciliation, dispute resolution, and payouts.
  • Understanding of accounts receivable processes including invoice creation, receipt verification and posting, customer invoice submission, reconciliations, and collections.
  • Ability to recognize staff ability levels, establish growth and career paths, monitor performance against objectives, and provide feedback and recognition.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality, with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, suggest process improvements, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, organizational, planning, record-keeping, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Sensitivity to homelessness and recovery issues and ability to work with people from diverse educational and personal backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle system implementations and enhancements.
  • Ability to deliver culturally responsive services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
  • Advanced computer knowledge and required proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Physical mobility for standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and walking on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to sit for six to eight hours per day and safely lift, carry, push, or pull up to 15 pounds.
  • Mental acuity for analytical reasoning and document interpretation.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, rent roll, and accounting staff.
  • Manage 1099s, unclaimed property, subledger aging, and bad debt.
  • Assist the accounting team with month-end close, journal-entry approvals, and property accounting.
  • Approve bank transactions, including payments and transfers.
  • Analyze and monitor cash flow for multiple bank accounts and perform cash-balance projections.
  • Answer auditing, reporting, and budgeting questions from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and review audit assignments from government agencies and auditing firms.
  • Act as liaison with outside auditors and government agencies regarding contract issues.
  • Manage and perform other accounting activities.
  • Build and manage a high-performing team.
  • Articulate program goals and develop tools and metrics for staff to achieve those goals.

Brilliant Corners is a nonprofit housing organization in California that provides housing and wraparound supports to vulnerable groups, including people experiencing homelessness, veterans, seniors, and those with complex health needs. It develops, owns, and manages diverse housing types—from multi-family affordable housing to licensed residential care homes—and also acts as a fiscal intermediary for rental assistance programs.
