Requirements
  • A college degree is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in customer service, sales, or another customer-facing position in the transportation industry is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of freight brokerage, third-party logistics, transportation, or supply chain industries is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills are required, primarily with Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Power BI, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to analyze, parse, and present data to make recommendations and build strategic plans is required.
  • Ability to use and learn new software and technologies is required.
  • Ability to negotiate service and pricing in a live environment is required.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically in writing, over the phone, and face to face; resolve conflict; meet deadlines; work under pressure; think logically; multitask; and make prudent decisions and recommendations is required.
  • Ability to participate in a compensated departmental on-call rotation, including scheduled after-hours and weekend support, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Champion, promote, and inspire core values, strategic goals, company initiatives, and culture through internal and external channels and key stakeholders.
  • Manage and optimize team resources.
  • Onboard, assimilate, manage, and develop Capacity and Customer Experience team members by executing the team-level cultural assimilation and performance management processes.
  • Ensure direct-report training records are managed and completed within the timeframe outlined for each role.
  • Manage team-wide adherence to the company mission, policies, core values, customer expectations, industry policies, and best practices in freight transaction management.
  • Recommend additional, new, or different resources to ensure the team has the capability and bandwidth to support existing accounts, onboard new customers, and execute new business.
  • Mentor and develop team members to maintain or exceed the proficiency required to support customer growth, satisfaction, and service continuity.
  • Identify and implement technology needs and solutions that drive business growth, increase productivity, and optimize customer or carrier satisfaction and retention.
  • Communicate proactively and effectively so internal and external customers and carriers are aware of changes and issues before or as they happen.
  • Lead and participate in execution strategies for new customer opportunities and onboarding activities in collaboration with Business Development.
  • Drive growth and service continuity by ensuring team members are proficient in the language, terms, and service requirements of their service niche, collaborating with the Training Development Manager when additional training is needed.
  • Use data with the Department of Operations Excellence, Business Development, and senior leadership to develop insights and implement strategies that increase revenue and profitability, including identifying lanes producing negative return on investment.
  • Align sell-pricing strategies with market intelligence in collaboration with Pricing and Business Development to meet or exceed profitability and load goals.
  • Minimize the number of loads turned back or lost.
  • Integrate assigned customers’ requirements, expectations, industry policies, and practices into daily freight transaction management with Business Development and the Vice President of Sales and Operations.
  • Resolve and document escalated complaints, service failures, or corrective and preventive actions to build customer trust and satisfaction.
  • Attend selected customer visits, quarterly business reviews, industry events, and company-sponsored events to deepen customer relationships.
  • Record prospect and customer conversations in the customer relationship management platform to provide cross-functional visibility and identify opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Build and maintain consistent carrier capacity across team customers with Carrier Development.
  • Work with Capacity Development to onboard new carriers effectively.
  • Share underperforming customers, lanes, or opportunities with Capacity Development to source better-performing solutions.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and the Department of Operations Excellence on account projections and set individual goals for Capacity Specialists.
  • Align buying strategies with market intelligence in collaboration with Pricing, Business Development, and Capacity Development to maximize profitability.
  • Position the company as a broker of choice for carriers while optimizing team carrier performance and relationships.
  • Forge deep and broad carrier relationships with the Capacity Development Manager.
  • Integrate preferred carriers to increase carrier utilization and performance key performance indicators.
  • Use the carrier corrective and preventive action process to resolve service failures, drive performance improvement, and align with the company value proposition to customers.
