Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a Registered Nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Registered nurses hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate Degree in Nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and successfully obtain the BSN within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting; bend at the waist; kneel; climb stairs; reach in all directions; fully use both hands and legs; perform repetitive motions; and maintain finger dexterity.
  • Ability to qualify physically for respirator use, maintain 20/40 corrected vision, work in a latex-safe environment indoors, and work in dusty or confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to frequently lift, lower, push, pull, or carry objects weighing approximately 50 pounds unassisted and exert up to 50 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care to assigned patients requiring intravenous treatment.
  • Administer intravenous therapeutic treatments as directed by a physician.
  • Determine appropriate venipuncture or catheter sites.
  • Observe patients’ intravenous treatments and record observations in patient medical records.
  • Provide patients and families with information about intravenous treatments and procedures.
  • Coordinate care for infusion patients and facilitate efficient patient flow between registration and clinical staff.
  • Confer with physicians regarding the need, urgency, and appropriateness of infusion and clinic visits and ancillary services.
  • Assess and review physician orders to support timely patient scheduling.
  • Manage comprehensive nursing care for patients with needs ranging from uncomplicated to complex and rapidly changing.
  • Organize and prioritize nursing care activities and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to improve patient care and complete appropriate referrals.
  • Coordinate and manage care using analytical reasoning, reflection, rational problem-solving, evidence-based information, and clinical judgment.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate.
  • Collaborate with physicians to monitor, evaluate, and trend patient responses to treatment.
  • Work with support staff to maximize efficiency in infusion scheduling.
  • Document patient-care activities in the electronic medical record, including telephone-call disposition and medication lists.
  • Generate ancillary requests in Practice Partner and update medications in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in performance-improvement and research activities designed to improve patient care or organizational processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with intravenous insertion is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
