Responsibilities
  • Design and recommend products for the customers to solve problems and meet the equipment design requirements. Document all projects per Business, Engineering, and Company work instructions and procedures to maintain compliance with ISO9001.
  • Actively participate on Strategic Account Teams, attending team meetings, collaborating with and developing relationships with customers, providing onsite support through growth of lateral and vertical contact chains.
  • Be active in growing sales at assigned accounts through recognizing and participating in new products that are either within or are a logical extension of GT’s core capabilities.
  • Maintain the reputation as a technical expert in advanced design, computational analysis, process optimization, and material testing.
  • Manage projects independently and maintain effective communications between the GT project teams, engineering, sales, manufacturing and quality throughout project.
  • Utilize experience to provide technical support and coaching to junior level engineering staff regarding design, analysis, and materials.
  • Review applications projects as necessary for accuracy and completeness, providing comments and/or approvals as appropriate.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing via advanced engineering support and computational analysis in support of our products to ensure that the customers receive high-quality, consistent products that meet the required specifications, as well as ensure operational processes are efficient and optimized.
  • Provide advanced engineering services at customer locations as well as industry conferences to demonstrate GT’s high technical competency in pursuit of existing and new business opportunities.
  • Develop advanced computational models, techniques, and analytical tools for use across the organization through programming and modification to analytical capabilities.
  • Provide training and development to junior staff members on advanced Engineering and design topics. Leverage subject matter expertise horizontally across the organization to enhance the organizations overall design and analysis capabilities.

Arrow McLaren and Greene Tweed develop lightweight composite anti-roll bar lever for INDYCAR

Arrow McLaren and Greene Tweed have co-engineered a lightweight anti-roll bar lever for INDYCAR race cars using Greene Tweed's Xycomp DLF thermoplastic composite. The redesigned suspension component reduces weight by 64 grams per car whilst maintaining strength and reliability required for elite racing. The component, which helps control chassis roll during high-speed cornering, was transitioned from 7075 aluminium billet to the thermoplastic composite material. Greene Tweed worked closely with Arrow McLaren's engineering team to evaluate performance requirements, geometry and manufacturing approaches. The new anti-roll bar levers were first introduced on Nolan Siegel's No. 6 car at Barber Motorsports Park and have since been implemented across all Arrow McLaren vehicles. The project also reduced internal development workload for Arrow McLaren's engineering and production teams.

Importantly, DLF composites maintain stability and strength at elevated temperatures up to at least 180 °C, outperforming aerospace-grade aluminum alloys vulnerable to heat-induced strength reduction. In some cases, DLF has replaced titanium or steel, yielding even greater weight savings. A specific use case highlighted is the business jet outer guide vane, a complex, non-structural part subjected to hail impact and durability requirements. Greene Tweed developed a co-molding technique combining a metallic leading edge with a net-molded DLF vane, validated through hail impact testing in Switzerland. This hybrid vane delivers substantial weight reductions of eight to 10 pounds per engine in a cost-effective manner. Regarding certification challenges, Mease notes that new aerospace materials require extensive characterization to meet strict regulatory demands.
