  • Applicants should be third- and fourth-year Penn State undergraduate students
  • Applicants should have an interest in communications, publishing, or a related field
  • Applicants should have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility and to learning how these efforts relate to open access and library publishing
  • Position runs from Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 and is for 10-15 hours per week
  • The internship offers a hybrid work option after onboarding and training is complete
  • The position pays 15 dollars per hour
  • The role may involve tasks such as content support for publications on the website and PDF versions, generating DOIs, uploading content into the journal submission system, and creating journal issues
  • Background checks or clearances will be required for employment
Responsibilities
  • Support editors throughout the publishing process by providing content support for publications on the website and PDF versions
  • Provide document accessibility support for all publication types
  • Attend professional development opportunities such as digital accessibility conferences
  • Assist editors and authors by completing publishing tasks including assigning DOIs, uploading content into the journal submission system, and creating journal issues
  • Support Open Educational Resource content published in the Open Publishing program and other Open Publishing projects as needed
  • Prepare a brief report summarizing the internship experience at the end of the internship
  • Participate in monthly Community of Practice meetings via virtual discussions and Canvas assignments
  • Participate in the Student Employee Showcase held each April to showcase student projects
  • Possibly participate in the University Libraries Student Advisory Group as a recommended participation
  • May attend related COP activities to help with stewardship letters and preparing for student showcase
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of graphic design is helpful but not required
  • Experience or openness to attending professional development opportunities such as digital accessibility conferences
  • Interest in DEI and accessibility aligned with open access and library publishing (present but not strictly required)
  • Participation in University Libraries Student Advisory Group is recommended
