Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of floor care experience is required, including operating floor machines, stripping floors, shower scrubbing, bonnet buffing, extracting, and carpet spotting.
  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision is required.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills are required.
  • The ability to lift objects and climb ladders is required, along with moderate to heavy physical effort.
  • Proficiency in operating all floor care equipment is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in hospital housekeeping duties is required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and complete carpet and hard surface care assignments, direct floor care activities, and perform other project tasks as assigned by department leadership in accordance with departmental and Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.
  • Assist department leadership in conducting department-certified training for Floor Care Specialists and HK II nominees or applicants.
  • Understand how soiling occurs, distinguish between soluble and insoluble soil, and understand what occurs during the cleaning process.
  • Understand the specific use of housekeeping chemicals and their dilution rates.
  • Identify flooring and fabric types typically used in a healthcare setting and assess their condition.
  • Perform hard surface floor dust mopping and wet or microfiber mopping.
  • Perform shower scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing of all hard floor surfaces.
  • Perform carpet care, including spotting, bonnet buffing or shampooing, and extraction.
  • Vacuum carpeted surfaces with an upright vacuum cleaner.
  • Operate departmental floor care equipment, including upright vacuums, battery-operated vacuums, conventional floor machines, electric burnishers, auto-burnishers, auto-scrubbers, finish applicators, and wet or dry vacuums.
  • Use the Tru-D ultraviolet light device and train other staff in its use.
  • Clean all inpatient rooms daily and perform discharge or transfer cleaning procedures.
  • Perform isolation cleaning and precaution procedures using appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Clean between cases and perform terminal cleaning in inpatient and outpatient special procedure areas.
  • Clean laboratory areas, pharmacy clean or intravenous rooms, stairways, elevators, offices, conference rooms, furniture, public and non-public restrooms, and locker rooms.
  • Clean intravenous pumps, including IV or Sigma Smart Pumps.
  • Handle and dispose of all waste streams, including regulated waste, and operate the autoclave when the recycling or waste coordinator is absent.
  • Clean up hazardous material spills as required by leadership.
  • Follow departmental safety procedures for chemical and equipment use and report discrepancies.
  • Report observed or incurred injuries to department leadership and submit injury reports as required.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment, including carts, vacuums, and pagers, according to departmental guidelines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on departmental equipment.
  • Operate commercial laundry equipment and train other staff in its use.
  • Assist and cover for the department Labor Technician with furniture moves and setups.
  • Coordinate and delegate daily scheduled project work in the absence of leadership.
  • Assist leadership with scheduling project work and inform leadership of current and future supply needs.
  • Keep cleaning or project carts and housekeeping closets clean, stocked, and organized according to department policy.
  • Report facility repair issues to leadership or submit appropriate work orders.
  • Follow and monitor departmental policies, procedures, and communication boards.
  • Complete required training, meetings, and annual computer-based learning modules within designated timeframes.
  • Perform all duties proficiently and within designated timeframes, as well as other related work as required or requested.
  • Perform A.I.D.E.T. and Greet and Feet techniques according to policy and understand their impact on third-party patient survey processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician is preferred.
  • Floor care experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
