Requirements
  • Completion of a curriculum approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association in collaboration with the American Occupational Therapy Association, including required didactic and clinical work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional work experience in an occupational therapist role.
  • Occupational Therapist-NY license required upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and carry out occupational therapy programs for individuals based on physician diagnosis and evaluation to facilitate rehabilitation of mentally or physically ill patients.
  • Evaluate patients’ functional abilities and disabilities using tests, observations, and information from family members, physicians, nursing staff, and others.
  • Plan therapy treatment programs involving exercise, functional activity, self-care tasks, home management tasks, vocational and prevocational skills to help patients regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to handicaps.
  • Educate patients and families in self-care techniques, home modification, therapeutic exercise and activity, equipment use, and other areas relevant to patient functioning and well-being.
  • Implement therapy treatment programs involving exercise, functional activity, self-care tasks, home management tasks, vocational and prevocational skills to help patients regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to handicaps.
  • Communicate with hospital team members regarding patient progress, therapy recommendations, and barriers to discharge.
  • Maintain required patient and department records.
  • Keep abreast of issues and changes in the field by reading and attending professional meetings and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
