Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:
The purpose of the Upward Bound Counselor is to provide personal, academic, and career development counseling to low-income potential first-generation college students by equipping participants with the necessary skills to successfully matriculate to post-secondary institutions of their choosing.

Physical Demands:
Sitting for extended periods of time. Viewing computer screens and keyboarding. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Some walking and driving. Some lifting of lightweight boxes of college brochures and manuals. No other unusual physical activity required.

Preferences:
Two years experience with administration of counseling assessments.
Bilingual (Spanish).

Licenses/ Certifications:
Eligible for National Certified Counselor (NCC) and state licenses as professional counselor (LPC).

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

● Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

● Experience: Two (2) years of clinical experience in an ambulatory mental health setting.

● Other: LGPC may also be considered with at least 2000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical work and the ability to obtain a LCSW-C or LCPC license within one year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

● Knowledge of mental health diagnostic conditions, principles of psychotherapy.
● Knowledge of group psychodynamics and supervision.
● Skill in oral and written communication.
● Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
● Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
