Requirements
  • 10–12 years of experience in industrial automation and PLC engineering.
  • Strong expertise in Siemens TIA Portal for PLC development, diagnostics, and commissioning.
  • Expert-level programming experience using Statement List (STL).
  • Strong experience with SCADA systems, Siemens HMI development and scripting, Siemens Safety PLC programming, and Siemens Proneta for diagnostics and version management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Profinet, Profibus, AS-i communication protocols, PLC pointers, and indirect addressing.
  • Experience with PLC software architecture, system integration, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and site commissioning.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • B.E. or B.Tech degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Willingness to travel 50–70% for project commissioning and customer support.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of Low-Level Controls (LLC) software using Siemens TIA Portal and Vanderlande’s controls architecture.
  • Develop PLC applications from scratch using Statement List (STL) programming.
  • Design, configure, program, test, and document complex control applications and subsystems.
  • Develop reusable control modules and enhance standard PLC software libraries.
  • Create functional specifications and detailed technical documentation based on customer requirements.
  • Apply engineering standards, software development procedures, and quality guidelines throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead system integration, validation, and testing activities involving PLC, SCADA, Safety PLC, and Equipment Management systems.
  • Develop diagnostic, simulation, and emulation tools to improve testing and commissioning efficiency.
  • Manage commissioning activities in collaboration with site supervisors and project leaders.
  • Ensure complete and high-quality Service Take Over (STO) documentation.
  • Troubleshoot complex automation issues and implement robust control solutions.
  • Support risk mitigation and resolve multidisciplinary technical challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership to Controls Engineers within project teams.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, and engineering audits.
  • Support project planning, effort estimation, budgeting, and timely project delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes, products, and control platforms.
  • Promote software development best practices, documentation standards, and knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to ensure seamless system integration.

Vanderlande wins contract to supply SPOX sorter for DHL Express facility in Cologne. DHL Express Germany has awarded Vanderlande a contract to provide automation solutions - including the SPOX sorter - for its new facility in Cologne. The agreement was signed on October 21 at Parcel+Post Expo 2025 in Amsterdam. This will be the first time this sorter has been installed at a DHL facility. Able to sort 6,000 items per hour, SPOX will allow DHL Express Germany to handle a mixed flow of regular and small parcels in the Cologne facility - including those as thin as 5mm. The sorter has been designed and built with sustainability in mind. When components wear out, they can be refurbished and then reintegrated into the system. In addition to the sorter, Vanderlande will provide two chutes, nine truck outfeeds and three van lines. It will also implement its PACE Sort sortation control software. This delivers secure host integration and advanced sortation logic to help manage complex parcel flows. It will reportedly be the first time this software has been installed at a greenfield site for DHL Express. "This contract win reflects DHL's trust in Vanderlande and shows the strength of our longstanding partnership," said Markus Ehrmann, executive managing director of Vanderlande. "We're delighted to be installing SPOX, our unique sorting solution that has been manufactured according to the principles of circularity, and that provides customers with improved flexibility and accuracy." "Vanderlande's solution will allow us to handle the parcel flow with increased efficiency, along with the ability to sort a diverse range of items," added Christian Knieps, director of engineering at DHL Express Germany. "As ever, our team will be working closely with Vanderlande through the installation phase to ensure a seamless integration before go-live, which is set for September 2026."
