Wealthsimple is a digital financial platform that provides tools to help people manage money, invest, trade stocks, buy cryptocurrency, save, spend, and file taxes all in one place. It works by offering services such as automated investing (a robo-advisor that builds and rebalances portfolios), commission-free stock trading, cryptocurrency investments, and quick tax filing. Revenue comes from management fees on investment accounts, transaction fees, and premium service subscriptions. Wealthsimple differentiates itself through a user-friendly, tech-enabled experience that aims to be more human-centric and accessible, especially for young professionals and tech-savvy users, while offering a broad set of financial tools in one platform. Its goal is to simplify financial management and make financial services easy to use for a wide audience.

Wealthsimple is launching Wealthsimple Predict, a standalone app offering Canadian retail investors access to prediction markets trading. The app, currently in beta testing, will launch this summer. At launch, the app will provide access to nearly 4,000 event contracts trading on Kalshi, the leading US predictions exchange. The contracts cover economic indicators, financial markets and climate—categories Wealthsimple is authorised to offer in Canada. Prediction markets allow participants to trade on real-world event outcomes through yes-or-no contracts that settle at $1 or $0. Contract prices reflect the market's collective probability assessment of each outcome. In March, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organisation authorised Wealthsimple to offer event and forecast contract trading, making it the second investment dealer to receive such approval. Wealthsimple serves over 4 million Canadians with $125 billion in assets under administration.
Wealthsimple has expanded into business banking with new offerings including a business chequing account, line of credit, credit card and upcoming USD account. The move reflects changing expectations amongst modern entrepreneurs who increasingly operate globally and demand streamlined financial services. Co-founder Brett Huneycutt noted that starting a business has become easier, with entrepreneurs now able to serve customers across Canada and internationally. According to Global Affairs Canada, small and medium-sized enterprises are increasingly participating in international markets as digital commerce reduces geographic barriers. This global reach creates new financial needs, including multi-currency accounts and faster international payments. Entrepreneurs are also losing patience with traditional banking friction, seeking the same convenience from financial services that they receive from other technology platforms.
Wealthsimple has launched IPO Access, allowing Canadian retail investors to purchase shares in select initial public offerings at the offering price before they begin trading publicly. This access, typically reserved for institutional and high-net-worth investors, will cover companies going public on Canadian and US stock exchanges. Clients can request any number of shares through the Wealthsimple app with no minimum purchase requirement or participation fees. If demand exceeds available shares, allocation follows a transparent process disclosed before each IPO. Wealthsimple receives share allocations from investment banks as an invitee rather than acting as an underwriter. The Toronto-based company serves over 4 million Canadians and holds approximately $125 billion in assets under administration as of March 2026. Wealthsimple previously introduced commission-free trading in Canada.
Wealthsimple ended Q1 2026 with $124.8 billion in assets under administration, up 12.1% from the previous quarter and 71% year-over-year. The Canadian financial company now serves 3.4 million clients, with one in five Canadians aged 18 to 40 using at least one Wealthsimple product. The quarter marked Wealthsimple's strongest RRSP season, with deposits up over 45% year-over-year and record account transfers. The company's "Unreal Deal" promotion offered contribution matches of 1%, 2%, or 3%, with 85% of participants selecting the highest tier and committing to five years. Wealthsimple also launched new talent recruitment programmes, including AI Builders, Launchpad for recent high school graduates, and North Star targeting Canadian talent abroad. The company added Jessica Oliver as VP of Government Relations and Rachael Factor as VP of Communications.
Visa Canada and Wealthsimple have launched a pilot programme allowing Wealthsimple to settle certain obligations with Visa Canada using USD Coin (USDC), marking the first Canadian deployment of Visa's global stablecoin settlement initiative. The pilot extends Visa's stablecoin strategy, which recently surpassed a $7 billion annualised settlement run rate. The programme focuses on institutional settlement rather than consumer payments, enabling seven-day settlement and improved liquidity management whilst maintaining Visa's security and compliance standards. Users will see no change in how they pay, as the pilot tests back-end money movement between financial institutions. Visa Canada president Michiel Wielhouwer said the company is building infrastructure to support new money-movement solutions at scale. The pilot positions stablecoins within Canada's evolving payments infrastructure, moving them from crypto trading venues into institutional settlement systems.
