Requirements
  • A university degree in accounting, finance, business, information technology, or a related field is required.
  • Significant progressive experience, typically 8 or more years, in internal or external audit, technology risk, or assurance is required.
  • Experience with audit and risk analytics, reporting tools, and audit management software such as TeamMate, Diligent, Resolver, ACL, or equivalent is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to assess complex, interrelated processes.
  • Proven leadership and influencing skills are required, including comfort engaging senior executives and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to present concise, executive-ready materials.
  • The candidate must be able to balance assurance, advisory, and delivery responsibilities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, execution, and reporting of risk-based audit engagements across financial, operational, and strategic domains, primarily in Pension Operations and Technology.
  • Lead project assurance engagements reviewing technology transformations and information technology risk assessments, including system development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and application controls across in-house platforms, software as a service, and on-premises applications.
  • Develop engagement objectives, audit approaches, scopes, and timelines aligned with organizational strategy, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations.
  • Identify control gaps, assess root causes, validate remediation plans, and support residual risk acceptance where appropriate.
  • Cultivate relationships with senior business partners in pensions and technology to understand processes, risks, and control environments.
  • Serve as a key liaison during audits and risk engagements by providing timely insights, practical recommendations, and ongoing status updates.
  • Translate audit and technology risk issues into clear, business-focused language for executive and senior management audiences.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Oversight functions, including Compliance and Ethics and Enterprise Risk partners, to ensure consistent and effective risk management approaches.
  • Deliver clear, balanced, and actionable audit reports with recommendations based on root cause analysis and risk assessments for senior management and Board committees.
  • Partner with management to develop sustainable action plans and monitor timely remediation of findings.
  • Develop reporting, metrics, and dashboards to highlight control effectiveness, emerging risks, and thematic issues.
  • Assist Internal Audit leadership in identifying emerging risks, developing the annual audit plan, and optimizing audit methodologies, including agile, artificial intelligence, and data-driven audit approaches.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the audit universe and help ensure alignment with organizational strategy, goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development of the annual audit plan.
  • Apply and promote leading practices and regulatory frameworks, including COBIT, ISO, NIST, FFIEC, PCI, and ITIL, as well as agile audit methodologies.
  • Advance the use of data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and technology-enabled audit techniques.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop audit professionals by building technical, analytical, and stakeholder-management capabilities across the Internal Audit team.
  • Support continuous-improvement initiatives, including training, methodology enhancements, and innovation within the audit function.
  • Promote risk awareness and strong control discipline across the organization through formal and informal engagement.
Desired Qualifications
  • A professional designation such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, or another relevant designation is preferred.
  • A Pension Plan Administration Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and control frameworks such as COBIT, ISO 27001, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ITIL, and related standards is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret data queries such as Structured Query Language and leverage analytics to support data-driven audit and risk insights is preferred.
  • Proficiency in artificial-intelligence prompting is an asset.

Omers appoints CAAT exec to lead private equity funds strategy. * July 31, 2026 * - 9:14 am Omers has appointed Adam Buzanis as head of funds as the Canadian pension fund continues to expand its private equity fund investment platform and increase its focus on co-investments and external manager relationships, according to a report by Bloomberg. Buzanis joins from CAAT Pension Plan, where he most recently served as head of private markets after previously leading the organisation's private equity strategy. He will take up the new role on 3 August and report to Michael Block, who oversees private capital investments at Omers. The appointment comes as Omers continues to reshape its private equity business, placing greater emphasis on fund investments and partnerships with external managers rather than traditional direct buyouts. In his new position, Buzanis will be responsible for developing Omers' external private equity funds strategy while helping expand the pension plan's co-investment programme. The hire is the latest in a series of senior leadership changes within Omers' investment division. Former chief investment officer Ralph Berg recently departed to join Temasek, while earlier this month Omers promoted Michael Hill to global head of infrastructure and private equity and broadened Block's responsibilities across private capital. Omers has been repositioning its private equity platform over the past two years, including ending direct buyout activity in Europe in favour of investing alongside strategic partners and through third-party private equity fund managers.

FSRA announces appointment of Julie Giraldi as Chief Human Resources Officer. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Giraldi, CHRE, ICD.D, as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), effective July 13, 2026. Julie joins FSRA with extensive executive leadership experience in human resources, organizational transformation, talent strategy, culture, and governance. She is recognized for her ability to build high-performing teams, strengthen organizational culture, and align people strategies with business objectives in complex and evolving environments. Most recently, Julie served as Chief Human Resources Officer at CAAT Pension Plan, where she led all aspects of people and culture, including talent management, leadership development, employee engagement, succession planning, total rewards, and employee communications. During her tenure, she played a key role in leading the organization through a period of unprecedented growth - including a 500% increase in headcount, while increasing employee engagement to 85%. Her leadership contributed to CAAT's recognition as an employer of choice. She left CAAT in the summer of 2025. Prior to joining CAAT Pension Plan, Julie held senior leadership positions at OMERS, the Ontario Hospital Association, eHealth Ontario, and TTC where she led major initiatives focused on business transformation, organizational effectiveness, workforce development, and change management. OMERS reshuffles private markets team after CIO exit. * July 3, 2026 * - 9:13 am OMERS has appointed Michael Hill as global head of infrastructure and private equity as part of an investment team reshuffle triggered by the departure of chief investment officer Ralph Berg, according to a report by Bloomberg. Hill, who is based in New York, joined OMERS in 2023 from Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where he focused on private equity investments in the energy sector. He was previously head of infrastructure at OMERS. Berg is leaving the CAD145bn pension plan to join Singapore's Temasek. Following his departure, OMERS chief executive Blake Hutcheson has assumed CIO responsibilities. The changes follow a difficult year for OMERS' private equity business, which recorded its first annual loss since 2020 after declining 2.5% in 2025. The pension plan attributed the performance to weakness in its earlier-stage growth and venture portfolios, as well as currency losses. Under the new structure, Michael Block will take on a broader private capital mandate focused on deepening relationships with private fund managers.
