Requirements
  • A current Dentist's license issued by the Oregon Board of Dentistry at the time of appointment.
  • A valid Oregon Driver's License and acceptable driving record; driving/travel is an essential function of the position.
  • Must be able to pass criminal records background check, driving record background check, and a vulnerable population abuse and neglect check; fingerprinting may be required as part of pre-employment checks.
  • Ability to work in a close custody facility and adhere to security measures at all times.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to provide services at multiple facilities as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Performs all dental care services and procedures using a trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate approach.
  • Provide initial oral exams on all youth when they arrive at intake at MYCF and Oak Creek.
  • Performs all phases of general, oral and dental medicine, including operative endodontics, exodontics and periodontics services, as well as limited oral surgery.
  • Performs oral examinations, diagnose, and develop a plan of treatment to correct oral health problems for each youth.
  • Maintains a dental record on all youth committed to MYCF, and Oak Creek including the JWTP program and youth from other OYA facilities who go to MacLaren for dental services, or seen on-site at a facility
  • Triage, assess and treat youth with acute dental needs communicated via medi-grams.
  • Assists others in the dental office with various processes and procedures.
  • Provides oversight and clinical supervision of the dental assistant.
  • Coordinates with community dental providers to ensure treatment/operative procedures are completed for youth.
  • Promotes a preventive dental program which includes preventive care and plaque control methods.
