Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.
The Mixed Signal Solutions department at HRL Laboratories is a highly talented team of scientists and engineers with diverse backgrounds in integrated circuit design, advanced packaging, novel signal processing and algorithm development, and characterization of highly complex digital and mixed signal systems and subsystems for commercial and government applications in an innovative research and development environment. As a member of the team, you will focus on developing thermal mechanical solutions to help transition the innovative concepts into prototype hardware.
Essential Duties:
Develop innovative thermal mechanical design solutions for managing heat loads on complex systems.
Perform sub-system and system level thermal analysis and modeling. Design and execute tests to validate the thermal modeling.
Develop standard practices and guidelines for thermal FEA and common hand calculations.
Summarize key findings in written documents and oral presentations. Contribute to proposals, write reports, and develop schedule estimates.
Required Skills:
10+ years of experience with CAD design (e.g. Solidworks), FEM analysis, analytical, and numerical methods for solving real-world 1D, 2D, and 3D heat flow and mechanical (e.g. stress/strain) problems.
Experience planning, conducting, and analyzing experiments. Creative problem solving and strong organizational skills.
Hands-on experience using industry analytical simulation tool such as ANSYS Mechanical, Thermal Desktop, COMSOL, or other thermal FEA tools. A strong mix of technical breadth and depth in the fields of heat transfer, thermodynamics, material science, two-phase thermo-physics, and thermal engineering, is highly desired.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work for extended periods while standing or sitting at a computer workstation. Ability to work well in a team and independently. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.
Required Education:
MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or related discipline with an emphasis on heat transfer plus 6 years of professional experience.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Active SSBI is a plus.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $163,150 - $209,088 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for the position.
