Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work and an active independent clinical social work license (LCSW, LICSW, or equivalent) OR Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with an active independent LMFT license OR Doctoral degree in Psychology with an active license to practice psychology.
  • Active, unrestricted state license permitting independent clinical practice.
  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
  • Ability to successfully obtain clinical credentialing through Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience providing group therapy or behavioral health services with populations including justice-involved/forensic/high-risk patients; individuals diagnosed with PTSD; individuals with substance use disorders; individuals receiving sex offender treatment; active-duty military personnel, veterans, or other military-connected populations.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate educational, psychoeducational, and offense-related clinical groups.
  • Respond to behavioral health emergencies and assess patients experiencing suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, psychosis, and other acute mental health concerns.
  • Provide individual counseling, crisis intervention, and behavioral health treatment.
  • Conduct mental health screenings, clinical assessments, PREA assessments, risk assessments, substance use assessments, and relapse prevention planning.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans.
  • Revise existing clinical curricula and develop new clinical programming as needed.
  • Provide clinical recommendations regarding patient housing and work assignments.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to Mental Health Technicians.
  • Prepare clinical reports, treatment summaries, and presentations for supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation.
  • Follow all records management policies and procedures.
  • Comply with Medical Treatment Facility credentialing requirements, peer reviews, and quality assurance standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, Department of Defense, and facility policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a correctional or forensic behavioral health setting
  • Experience working within the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, or another federal healthcare system
  • Experience facilitating psychoeducational and offender treatment groups
  • Previous federal credentialing experience
