Requirements
  • Possess an M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.

  • Successfully complete an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Maintain current practice in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
  • Report to the Chief Medical Officer for clinical matters and to the Hospital Chief Executive Officer or designee for administrative matters.
  • Provide full-time professional medical services to patients of assigned hospitals, including rounding and consultations in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Collaborate with facility leadership, staff, practitioners, and consultants to develop, implement, and evaluate patient-care policies and procedures.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve medical and clinical concerns affecting patient care, medical care, quality of life, or physician and practitioner services.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, consult on, and manage patients with physical or cognitive impairment and disability.
  • Diagnose and treat painful or functionally limiting conditions and manage co-morbidities and co-impairments.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injection procedures and electrodiagnostic medicine.
  • Prevent complications of disability from secondary conditions.
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions in accordance with medical staff policy.
  • Examine patients with pain, weakness, and numbness using diagnostic plans or treatment prescriptions that may include physical agents or other interventions.
  • Evaluate, prescribe, and supervise medical and comprehensive rehabilitation goals and treatment plans.
  • Admit patients to inpatient or other appropriate levels of care for treatment.
  • Perform general history and physical examinations and pre-admission assessments.
  • Perform day-four plan-of-care reviews and approve pre-admission screenings.
  • Provide professional services in accordance with generally accepted professional standards.
  • Perform reasonably required administrative services.
  • Prepare and maintain complete and accurate medical records and related reports, claims, and correspondence, including pre-admission screenings, individualized plans of care, interdisciplinary team conference documentation, progress notes, admission orders, and Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instruments.
  • Assist with medical education, including curriculum development, supervision and performance evaluations, daily rounds, lectures, demonstrations, informal discussions, and continuing education for attending medical staff, nursing staff, and therapy staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current certification or active participation in the examination process leading to certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Prior experience as a Medical Director or in a leadership role.
