Requirements
  • A college or university degree in a related field is required.
  • At least 7 years of work experience in a related job discipline is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive career services support for law students and alumni at various stages of education and professional development.
  • Supervise the Director of Career Services, the Director of Public Service and Pro Bono, and the Director of Judicial Clerkships.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Office of Career Services and internal and external professional development opportunities for the team.
  • Lead and directly provide career counseling and related services to students and alumni.
  • Oversee Office of Career Services programming, including interview programs, student training and coaching programs, networking programs, and educational programs on career-related subjects.
  • Oversee all public service and pro bono programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee Office of Career Services aspects of the judicial clerkship process in support of faculty, students, and judges.
  • Liaise with and support faculty committees, including the Career Services, Public Interest, Clerkships, and Law Teaching committees.
  • Represent the Law School and Office of Career Services at recruitment and alumni events and external legal career services programs, including National Association for Law Placement conferences.
  • Manage the development, review, and revision of Office of Career Services communications, publications, and policies.
  • Lead the collection, analysis, and dissemination of legal employer career information and trends for students and alumni, and oversee the maintenance of career data and platforms.
  • Maintain records enabling the Career Services team to provide comprehensive services and fulfill internal and external reporting obligations.
  • Analyze data and produce internal and external reports about student employment outcomes and patterns, including data required for reporting to the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and the National Association for Law Placement.
  • Provide information about law student employment outcomes and patterns to the media, employers, students, alumni, faculty, and internal administrators.
  • Provide key input, leadership, and support to American Bar Association compliance reporting and site visits as needed.
  • Oversee the Office of Career Services budget and produce annual and periodic budget projections and reports.
  • Participate in Law School-wide and other department events as needed, including graduation, orientation, admitted student events, and Law School Council.
  • Partner with the Dean and other Associate Deans to provide leadership to the Law School in top administrative matters.
  • Manage managers and professional staff within Career Services, establish performance goals, allocate resources, and assess policies for direct subordinates.
  • Develop new and current programs, such as on-campus recruiting events and career management programs, to support students and alumni in post-graduate planning and career pursuits.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A J.D., Ph.D., or advanced equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing career services or another student services office is strongly preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience providing career or recruitment services to law students, lawyers, or others in a legal profession is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working within a law school or other unit of higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience supervising a multifunctional team is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with database management systems.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet research, and databases.
  • Expert counseling, organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex problems.
  • Ability to interact with tact and discretion with a wide range of people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to respect and protect the confidentiality of counseling and institutional information.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to collaborate across a team.
  • Ability to perform efficiently under stress.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
